Did you clean those with more than water? Amazing condition and appearance.

 

Not having that trenching tool in a scabbard looks dangerous. Ever bend over and stab your leg?

 

Yes.. I used Baking Soda. Cleans them up in seconds.. To me they are worth silver melt and I'm fascinated with the history.

 

For the picture I moved all the pouches to the center. The digger and the pinpointer are actually over on my right leg. I'm safe!

I own 11 detectors. 3 are ATPros. All 3 have a 5x8 coil. I alternate between them and use them 95% of the time. I have been my club’s HUNTER OF THE YEAR for the last 4 years straight. Vaughn Garrett has a FIND OF THE MONTH contest and I’ve won that twice. One of those is in his book of FAVORITE FINDS. I’ve had finds appear in national magazines in the US, UK and Scotland about a dozen times. Twice on the cover. A local tv news team did a story on me.
All of my outstanding finds have been with the ATP. A number of the more popular metal detectorists on YouTube use it. Aquachigger and The Hoover Boys among them. I highly recommend it. I’d be glad to talk to you if you have questions. Do not include personal message , bots monitor forums especially for persons' info especailly phone # to sell for infocommrcials or scams.

I'm planning a move out of the DC area and would like to take up metal detecting for the fun and exercise. I guess my first question is...where is the best places for metal detecting? In other words, where should I move? I'm thinking of areas around the Appalachian Mountains...Tennessee, North Carolina, etc.

I grew up in Connecticut. It was 80% farmland in the 1700's. Today, Connecticut is 80% woods. All of New England is covered in granite rock. Farmers had to remove the rocks from their fields so they could be plowed. They used the rocks they dug up for the foundation of their homes and to make rock walls separating their fields.

When I was a Scout in the early '70s, we hiked all over New England. I "heard" of treasures found along these abandoned rock walls deep in the woods. I have no first hand knowledge of this...just stories, but I always wanted to try detecting there.

I "heard" that coins often fell out of pockets as people climbed over the walls...or the rock walls were used as points of reference for buried treasure (e.g. Shawshank Redemption). That was where I was thinking of starting...but would love any additional ideas from a Pro!

 

I never heard of the Hoover Boys. I guess I have some YouTube homework tonight!

I would think that DC would have lots of potential but they may also be loaded with anti detecting laws and rules. St Augustine Fl is strictly off limits. Archeologists wrapped it up. Charleston SC is another.
I’m in NE Florida. Jacksonville is south of me and there’s great possibilities there. St Mary’s Ga is north and also is a treasure trove I live just outside of Fernandina Beach / Amelia Island which had histories into the 1600s, including real pirates.

plan on learning to knock on doors and asking permissions but it’s actually pretty easy. Most will let you if you approach them right. Get a professional looking business card. Makes you look legit. Join historical societies and online neighborhood forums. They are a great base.

one of the richest areas available are the curb strips which are a public easement. It’s the area between the sidewalks and street. That watch and that 1718 Reale came out from there. Just don’t screw up somebody’s landscaping

 

last week I found a strange coin but it wasn’t one. It was a commemorative token for Rutherford B Hayes. 1902

 

2 Ace 250s, 2 Sovereigns, Xterra 705, sand shark, etrac, and a POS no name “machine” I won in a contest. The 705 is for sale. Except for the 250s, I bought all of them used. I believe in having backups so I have 4 Lesche diggers (2 short handled and 2long handled) 2 scoops and 6 Garrett pinpointers Plus a Garrett Security Wand. Found it on eBay, real cheap, and it works as a pinpointer.
