That's how it works sometimes. There are proper ways to clean coins.

Yes. The problem is that those who know how to do it right aren't talking... lol.

I can understand wanting to keep trade secrets, but as far as I know the only folks who clean coins for money are NCS.

This thread gives me an excuse to post my birthdate coin that I treasure. You know what they said about Pavlov's dog. I know I've posted it before so I'll just post the slab picture. And, I know there is something pathetic about someone who posts the same coin pics repeatedly, but I can't help myself......compulsive personality disorders are rampant in the hobby!

Those that know, don't say much because every coin is different.
Looking at an image and telling someone what they should do is a tough call. Some coins can be helped but others should be left alone. Knowing if a coin can be helped is not something you learn overnight. There may be a proper way but most of the time it can't be told from an image.

I want that 1909 nice pick, I love to cherry pick but it's getting hard to find them here in Maine, everyone wants red book prices.

I buy sealed mint and proof sets, thats where I get most of my error coins, and cameo's. As a matter of fact I bought a sealed 1961 proof set on eBay last week for the Quarter, but tonight I was looking through the error section of my book and read about the proof DD reverse Franklin and no crap I took the coin out and 4 of the letters on the reverse were doubled I also got my Kennedy 1974 DDO was in a sealed set. I enjoy looking for finds like that coin collecting is fun.

    mirrors are very deep

    Hello Coinfreak,

When you visit the CC mint, you may be able to get one of these commemorative medals. I believe that it is made on one of the old Carson City coin press machines. It is a proof strike & the mirrors are so deep that you can use it as a mirror for shaving. (I know this because I did this once).

    Very best regards,
