It's hard to tell what that could be @Marie909 . What are you using for lighting?

That's not a very good combination. You can't preview the camera flash, so you have no idea what the image will look like. I assume that the illumination from the magnifier is a single point. That limits you to how you position the magnifier.

What kind of camera are you using? Is it a conventional camera or a phone camera?

Danomite What do you say uh-huh

That’s happened to a lot of us. I gave an acetone bath to some coins I kept 20 years ago, they ended in the dump bank:blackeye:

Turn the flash off, generally, set the lighting yourself, and see about rinsing coins and dabbing or blotting dry instead of wiping. On most coins it really won't matter much, but good habits are worth developing.

thanks, really want to look into a coin magnifier, sitting here with a broken foot, out of work, that will have to wait. (hence all of the coin searching and questions) i think before i post i will be absolutely sure the coin is clean!!!

Sorry to hear about your broken foot. Forget the coins, go fishing! It's so relaxing and you can eat them too.

Never wipe a coin with a cloth, it can leave hairlines which can devalue the coin.
