How is Edge Ornamentation Photographed?

I "borrowed" the attached photo from another recent thread to show the circular depiction of the edge ornamentation. I have no idea how this is photographed and post-processed to result in the final depiction.

Would anyone care to devote the effort to help me, and perhaps others, understand how this is done?

    Thanks. edges.jpg

I personally haven't done it, but if you put the coin in the reflector from a flashlight, you can do this. Of course, you have to take apart the flashlight!

That's it?!?! Now I feel dumber than I normally do.

Can someone now tell me how to take apart a flashlight? And, what's a flashlight?

In England they call it a torch, if that helps.

Of course, if it's a lettered edge the lettering will be reversed since it's a mirror image.

I take the image then I crop it twice, the last crop being a circular crop.
By the way I use PhotoScape, and if it isn't straight I rotate it...it's FREE

OK, I had to try two flashlights laying around the house because the first one had a scratched/hazy reflector. Here is the coin with the reflected edge lettering. Other than cropping, this is an unaltered image. Done in Photoscape which I've been using for a while. I use Digicam (also free) to remote control my Nikon DLSR D610.
