Hey CT folks. I have a little 12x15 MM coin that I cannot ID. It looks like it says DU but of I hold it upside down I think the creature on the reverse looks like a bull. I sent a blurry pic of this with another coin previously but didn't get a single hit. So sorry for the repost, but hopefully these pics are better (the other coin may be a lost cause). Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.
I can't make out much. Are you sure that it's silver? I can't be certain from the photo. If it's silver it might be a Roman Republican denarius, with the side with the DV being the reverse. RR coins are outside my area, so I can't be much more helpful. Hopefully an RR specialist will notice this and chime in. Good luck.
Good thinking! I hadn't even thought of it possibly being an RR. A couple of the coins in the lot I bought it with ended up being RR, but mostly Greek. So I just assumed it was Greek. In regards to it being silver, it sure appears to be though a bit grimy. Not that polished silver you get from a denarius. Thanks for helping steer this galley the right direction. I'll continue searching and let you know what/if I come up with something.
I really think you're on to something with it being a Roman Republic coin. I do believe it's a Quinarius. It's almost the exact same size as my Calpurnius Piso Frugi. I looked up Quinarius and DV on acsearch and the only images that even slightly resembled it were these that I have below...but these don't match. Back to the drawing board.
Flashback to one of my earliest posts! Was looking through my old unidentifieds today and just happened to look at this coin with the right eyes... it's Fulvia!!! I'd been looking for one of these for sometime. Even finally pulled the trigger on this gal: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/fu...-i-or-marcus-antonius-for-that-matter.360736/ But sometimes what you've been looking for is right in front of you the whole time. Note her wing, hair, super skinny neck, the lion and the letters on the reverse: Here's that new one again: Other examples that aren't mine to help:
Well you solved it before I got to my post. I was going to suggest you match it to this: RImp Marc Antony 43 BCE AR Quinarius 13mm 1.67g Lugdunum Winged bust Victory-probly Fulvia Lion DVNI LVGV Cr 489-5 Syd 1160
