Like back in 2007; the designs were shown early this year, and released into circulation ca. May or so. I don't like them.
Last year (2008) was the first year that the new Shield of Arms coinage was released so 2009 would make it the second year of release. The 4 coins in the bottom of the set are new for 2009. I just got the UK 2009 catalog in on Tuesday. I would like the all silver set of all the same designs, but it will run about $500 us dollars. Too many American coins to buy next year.
Oh. Sorry guys. :goof: It was the first time I've seen it. I don't think all of them have made it into circulation yet though. I noticed their stuff is pretty pricey. Used to seeing that.
I read about that some time back. I know the Brits are having a problem with counterfeit 1 pound coins that verging on critical. Something 2% of their 1 pound coins are believe to be counterfeit. Good reason to redesign their coinage.
The old designs are far more appealing than the new shield coins. But I'm not complaining; always nice to add a few more coins to my collection.
I love those new coins! Are they only for collectors? Or are they for circulation? And, if they are going to use the Euro, I don't think they should adopt a new design.
