:hail::hail::hail: Guess who found a real Fugio cent on Thursday at the Santa Clara Coin Show??? Yep...me...I put down a reserve and will be paying installments so no pictures any time soon but I am sooo freaking happy. It is lovely and you can see most of the details...I fell in love and had to have it. The camera came in and I will be posting pics of my new additions round here soon I promise.
CONGRATULATIONS! So cool those Fugio's. You are doing what I did too......putting on layaway and paying over time. Anxious for pictures and maybe I can help with attribution if you don't know already. I have the latest book on this series.
I love the Fugio cent. Someday I'll definitely pick one up. They are especially interesting to me because my old high school motto was "We Are One." So, along with the revolutionary era meaning of that phrase...it has a somewhat personal meaning as well.
Well, I just let one get the better of me: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180306448565
Oh my god I would pay 200 for one a billy goat ate and hacked back up. Nice deal. Jeez I have really weird and random terms I just realized.
I was trying to attribute that one but the pics weren't good enough. So you got lucky I backed off or we'd be a fight'n over it. Ribbit
I just saw the new book last night and it is awesome! I'm going to get one but Bowers is suppose to be coming out with a book next month that is a must have for me also, so the Fugio book will have to wait a while. I need the Bowers book on Connecticuts more than a book on Fugios. Ribbit
I like Bowers' books, they read well. Post a review, please? Glad to hear I didn't get hosed on the fugio. I have no idea how to value them, so just looked at completed auctions and made a wild guess on my snipe bid. I'll try to put up some decent pics when I get it so the experts can help me pin down the attribution.
It seems Fugios are going a tad bit higher than book value, but that's the problem free ones. Most have some kind of problem, holed, corroded, nics, etc... so problem free ones are few and far between. I'm happy with my problem coins, I can at least say I have one (or several) which beats having none. Five problem ones is about the same price as one good problem free one, so I'll take bulk over quality for now. When I'm closer to having a complete collection of the series, then I'll go for upgrading all of them. :thumb: Ribbit Ps: I'm surprised you didn't email me about that one.
You gotta love Fugios! I especially like the club ray varieties. I wish I had a really decent one, mine are all damaged or heavily worn.
I don't have a Fugio 1c... but if I had one coming my way, I'm sure I'd be excited. Congrats ! Post up when it comes in.
Well, my fugio arrived the other day and I like it! It is the 'STATES UNITED' kind and looks to be one of the more common types, according to Breen. Most of the writing is there, only the gnomon on the sundial, and most of the Roman numerals, are barely visible. The corrosion isn't too bad and no green stuff. I'll take some pictures when I have time, but it's just the coolest thing and I think everybody should have one!(now that I have mine, of course!)
Blasphemy! The word Common and Fugio do not belong in the same sentence! I can't believe you said that, Charles. :goof: You're grounded, young man! Ribbit
