One of the things that really ticks me off is to see an interesting topic, then click on and attempt to focus on poorly taken photos. We older guys do not have the visual acuity we used to possess. By poorly taken photos, I mean glaring shots, blurry shots, dark shots and combinations of these shots. I think all members will agree that you should take the time to ensure your pics. are not too bright, not too dark and represent closely the coin(s) you photograph for submission. I realize some coins are dark toned, so try to lighten the photo. If you are using a computer, it's easy. If you are using an iPhone, then I don't have a clue how to do that.
You may think I'm a crabby old man, well, I am old. :)

Although I'm not "old", I totally agree and feel your pain. It's almost disrespectful because it means that the person just wants us to figure it out ourselves and give them all the help they want. If we had good pictures, we would already be past the first couple of steps and we would be able to help them much more and much easier too.

This is sort of off topic, but I also don't like the GTG threads that are just the pictures. Those are a bit annoying because I like knowing about a coin. The person could tell us that they got an amazing deal, or that it's now their favorite coin, or something like that, but they just can't be bothered.

Something that people don't realize is that you can take a well focused picture, CROP IT and end up with a good photo.

For some reason, they take a stupid close up, have it come out blurrier than my vision last night, and think to themselves "this is acceptable."

I have several peeves with photos, especially in the Errors forum.

People will use a 250x microscope, post dozens of pictures with zero context and expect people to help.

Probably every third post in errors has a comment saying "please post the entire coin"

Error posters will also post a horrendously out of focus image and expect to get opinions.

    WHY

It may be because they want others to do the heavy lifting.

Quite often, someone will take a "so-so" photo and think that they can enlarge a part of it. The enlargement ends up being totally out of focus, and they can't understand why. If the full image is even slightly out of focus, the enlargement becomes even worse. If you plan to enlarge a part of an image, you need to use a copy stand or tripod to stabilize the original photo. It is next to impossible to take a clear photo when holding the camera in your hands.

It took me awhile to get decent photos on my cell. Every once in awhile I still have problems. I think it's the phone. Sure can't be me. I'm only in my mid sixties.

I'm way past that and still haven't been contacted. I wonder why? I'm interesting? I suspect they would become bored listening to my life story and who could blame them? Hang in there. You may be next on their list. ;)

As close to 100% accurate as anything can be. I see it time and time again where a poster seems to think, or just act like, Forum members are somehow obligated to expend extra effort to do their work for them.

It is simply a matter of courtesy to make the job of the person being asked for a favor as easy as possible.

OK, my rant is over, the third cup of coffee has expended its effects.

A big part of the problem is that many people don't have the proper equipment.
Lots of Smartphones being used and they just don't have the necessary capabilities.

Another part of the problem is that many people don't realize how important large, sharp images are.
This particularly causes me grief since I'm often looking for die varieties and for that I need the large, sharp images.
Date, face value and design just aren't good enough for my purposes.
I could probably fill a lot of holes in my Capped Bust Half Dime set if quality photos were attached to a listing.
