The anomaly can be seen with the naked eye in letter U in United on reverse and under a loop it really stands out. Doesn't look like a die chip but more like a blemish under the metal. Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks everyone... I thought it was a die chip when it caught my attention just looking at it. But when I looked at it through loop there are no gouge marks and surface is smooth. Also appears to continue under the letter itself. Will try and get better pics to show what I just described.
It looks to be from a small damaged area on the die that struck the coin or a small occluded gas bubble. Both of these could look the same for a area this small. Sometimes dies gets dents in them from striking hard objects.
Thank you, how would I categorize it if I may ask? And were occluded gas bubbles known to happen in early 29th century coins? I remember reading (I'm probably wrong) that was just recently found to occur.
Regardless of what caused the little raised area it probably would not add very much value to your dollar.
Lol...not looking for value, need to categorize because my memory is shot. Will use it to jog my memory or when it goes to my kids or grandkids they can learn anomalies and can use as examples to compare to coins they may find. I started late and was so confused at first but the knowledgable people as yourself in this forum has made it alot easier.
