I didn't realize they made a spiral one...good to know. I'll have to pick that up. Thanks GD!

Keep in mind Richie that is just a start. To really understand grading and how it is used in today's world you need all the grading books.

I'm not disagreeing with this. Honestly though, I didn't see it. If he added enough commentary, criticism and discussion to it he was in his rights.

I know, but I would like something in hard copy that I have in hand. Up to this point I have been using just the knowledge I have gotten here, from looking at slab coins, and reading elsewhere. It would be nice to have a book in hand.

Someone once showed me a large and out of print reference book for Morgan and Peace Dollars. I can't remember what it was (I saved the info somewhere) but it was expensive and hard to find. At some point, I want to get a copy of that.

    Ruben,

I only added photos to show how the text related visually and comments about some of the photos as they related to the text. Essentially, I made a half page quote of their book. I imagine that if my quote was one paragraph long with a photo as an example, it would have been fine. I got a little greedy and posted one half of a whole page. Again, I don't know if that is copyright infringement or not, but Cointalk was prudent in not trying to find out.

Perhaps you should buy BOTH books and do a bit of reading and reserarch on your own? Fortunately for me I have ready access to both. Yep, bought my own ANA guide and we have a PCGS guide at the shop as well as a plethora of other books. All are bought and paid for and, as an employee there I am allowed to look at them and formulate my own opinions. I would consider this a part of the business wouldn't you? If I am to identify and price a coin and perhaps note a variety it behooves my boss to provide me with the materials to do so.

If you were to buy these books you would have that luxury as well. Now, if you don't want to buy them feel free to fly/drive/walk/hitch hike (whatever mode of transportation you choose) to my work place and we can look at a hundred or so Barber quarters and formulate our own opinons.
However, if you choose to do this please call first because my boss gets cranky at times. Yes, seems at times he actually wants to SELL things. This is, after all, why he runs a shop.

Should you want to have us look up varities etc. we are more than happy to. We call it an appraisal. Minimum $75/hour and the first minute counts as an hour. Kinda like taking your car in for repairs yannow?

I have a few thousand of books in the house. Maybe we can trade and then when I have an answer I can post it from the books, with proper annotation, quoting and documentation.

I might be able to do it in about 20 minutes and in less than three paragraphs.

I was actually going to pick up the ANA book last week but after this thread I'm not sure I'd want to. I might expose some of the copyrighted material and go to jail for it.

Guys, please don't make this into a political discussion.

Could be Ruben but if you get down to it there's nothing I want to learn from you. Still, if you need an appraisal...............

Actually, my business is Medicine, and I have two non-profits in education, one is computer education

But - I think I might stop in at the library tomorrow and look at the ANA guild. If I like it I'll borrow it and maybe scan the section on SLQ's for my own interest.

I consider the Library not a luxury but a necessity for a functioning fee society...others still believe we should revisit this again after it was all but settled in the 1840's. These same people also would like to end public schools.

Yeah - I'm not going to Chicago. The last time I was there I was highly unsatisfied with the city. If I'm going anywhere it will be to a superior city like San Fransisco.

No need. You haven't earned my trust yet, nor are you local. It would have been interesting to have heard your opinion since you threw out that statement but as you explained, your clearly not up to it. Maybe as you learn more? This is life.

    Ruben,

Come to Atlantic City, I will teach you how to play poker and we can become friends. It is kinda local, just a couple hours.

Just enlighten me with something I would actually want to learn from you Ruben? Without infringing on any copyright laws etc. of course.

My mind is wide open for information that may be of some benefit. I see NO benefit in any "knowledge" you have posted actually.

Think about it. This whole thread was about why ANOTHER thread was put to rest and all you can do is argue about it? You "know people", "you have books". Big deal dude you DON'T run the forum.

If this was your forum you could do as YOU wish but it isn't. Nor is it mine for that matter. Deal with it.

It was your quote on your icon. I just thought it was ironic under the circumstances.

Is that what's upsetting you? Of course I don't run it or I'd never remove any threads for copyright purposes until I had take down notices under the DMCA.

Never the less, I will be vocal about it. It's important. An entire thread with potentially useful information disappeared. I know it is not as important as die cracks on a 1854 3 cent piece, but its worthy some discussion and enlightened education rather than reading posts about how we are thankful that the moderators are saving us from Big Brother.

Custodianship is important but I'd never seen any bloggsite or message board like Coin Talk get sued over any copyright violations. Frivolous Libel - yes ... copyright ..no.

In the event of a true copyright violation, under the DMCA the copyright holder has to send a take down notice to the site and the site must answer or comply. See the recent Google versus the MPAA activities over utube.

    Ruben,

That was the best post I have seen you make on this forum to date. What about my invitation to Atlantic City---Poker, Poker, Poker.

Ruben, I am impressed! Honestly!:thumb: Hey did you get Johansen's autograph on a DVD? I have read 2600 ever since I can remember. Once received a letter from the old Bell Tel saying my line was going to be monitored at undisclosed times because I was a subscriber. DeCss was such an important landmark. First Linux was Slackware 0.59 on a 386 with 2 mb First computer was a homebrew Z80 with 1KB Ram.:rolling:

Only the in crowd knows to what 2600 refers.

They tried to have him arrested under some shop lifting statute in Norway. Very strange. I'll tell you, Jack Valenti had a fit when they cracked CSS in Europe in a non-Brein signing nation at that....

Truthfully, the RIAA set that whole thing up. They wanted to make an example quickly under the DMCA because it is nothing short of a mandatory 25 year sentence. MURDER isn't a 25 year mandatory sentence.

The left the key completely exposed in one of the dvd drives in the US, but only in the US and only in a specific area of the US. The idiots at the RIAA never gave it a THOUGHT that the hacking community would just smuggle the key out to a minor child in a foreign country outside of US jurisdiction. It so annoyed them that they struck back at the closest target they could find, poor Cory from WBAI and Off the Hook ... not to mention 2600.

The worse case was when they arrested Dmitry Skylov. It took use months to get him out of jail...

Here is me and my kids protesting in front of the NY Library..
