I thought this thread might disappear as well. I also have no problem with Peter or Doug doing what they felt was best.
Besides when I looked at a PCGS G4 coin I realized how many AG ANA coins I had that are suddenly G4 by PCGS.

If you want to go by PCGS buy the book. If you want to go by ANA buy the book.

I commend Lehigh for a very nice post but, as I said, felt it would disapppear.

We need more people concerned about our rights if we want to keep them. As for gun rights, like it or hate it, the purpose of the 2nd ammendment was to keep the government from taking too much power from the people. (I don't own a gun btw, but I support the 2nd ammendment-along with the others).

Maybe that's why they put LIBERTY on our coins for so long.

My views about the 2nd amendment aside...this thread has taken an awful political turn. Be careful folks or the mods will close it.

When I made the post, I thought it was borderline inappropriate and was not surprised at all that it got pulled. I viewed it as a rather long quote from a book which I acknowledged in the OP. The quoted section was a little over one half of a page of the book, which I then added photos to visually demonstrate the quoted text.

I don't have any experience in copyright law, but assumed that it would be OK because there was no intent to profit on my part. However, if that post would allow others to access copyrighted information without having to purchase the text, then it certainly could cause lost revenue for PCGS, and I would think they would have a valid copyright infringement claim. IMO, the moderators correctly took that same view and closed the thread with absolutely no objection on my part, as it was almost expected.

The post was meant to be educational and I certainly did not intend to create a problem for CoinTalk. I will not make any further posts of that nature and will be careful when making posts that include quotes or photos from another source. I would also like to apologize to the moderators for any trouble I may have caused.

Ruben, everything you have stated may be correct, but I still think that the moderators were being prudent by deleting the thread. Just my opinion.

Tell ya what Ruben, Random House actually owns the rights. Why don't you run on down to 1745 Broadway and talk to them about it. But they're gonna tell ya aint no way Jose.

Why should I ask them when I have a lawyer I pay for and who defends my rights?

I'm not even certain what your asking? Are you asking if they can give us permission to print the guildlines or the post?

I'm telling you that they own the copyright to the book. And it says right in it that it may not be reproduced by any means without permission.

So if you wish to argue the point, I suggest you go talk to them.

What exactly is the PCGS G4 standard and can you show demonstrate the standard G4 verses AG3?

As I have suggested to you many times - buy the book. Then you can look it up for yourself. It may even help you understand some of this.

Hey GD, I have been meaning to pick up a good grading book. I have read excerpts from the ANA book and I know that is a very popular one...but what do you recommend as a good general resource (especially if I only want to buy one book for now)?

    The ANA book.

They can print that all they want, but its not relevant. The rights under copyright are retained regardless and the notice has no legal standing. The constitutional rights of the public and the limited exclusion provided under copyright to the copyright holder are defined in the law and by the courts.

As for arguing the point, I do it all the time and they don't really like to toy with me. I'm armed to the teeth and have a Public Relations arm that they can't beat. They much prefer to pick on 12 year old school girls downloading music and college students.

I don't know. If I buy the book, can I discuss its contents or are they a secret?

Of course, we discuss them here nearly every day. But you can't post entire sections word for word.
