Hi all, I am just getting into all this and I am wondering if these lines that are circular on the face of the coin are coin roll damage or a error with the die cast? (green & red arrows) Also, I noticed the P mint is filled in and the T and R are flattened (worn down or print error?). I've sought help on Facebook, but with several people saying different things, I'm not sure what to take from their opinions lol. 20200707_220435.jpg Thanks in advance! Here are other pics of the coin.

The T and R for the 1983 p mint Quarter. It didn't load on the OP. 20200707_220221.jpg

First, welcome to the neighborhood, Christina!

Your close-ups are too blurry. Can you post a photo of the full obverse (heads)?

FYI: Dies are not cast. Also, don't pay any attention to BoobTube. There is too much misinformation. ~ Chris

Thanks! This is the best I can get with my cell phone...still a bit blurry The others was with a magnifier attachment on the phone. I'm still learning all the terms lol. Thanks for taking the time to reply. The mint mark looks filled in, is that common? IMG_20200707_221924086~2.jpg

Yes, it does look like rolling machine damage. It's not unusual for the mintmark to appear filled, especially on older circulated coins.

Unfortunately, most close-ups taken with a magnifier are not that good.

    Thanks! ~ Chris

Welcome to Coin Talk. The US Mint is known to overuse the dies resulting in filled in mint marks, thick lettering, die breaks, etc.

Thanks, so this is pretty common then?

Yes.. Add many years of circulation wear and it will also add to that filled in issue.

Any suggestions on what I could use (that's affordable) to take better close-ups?

Welcome to CT. In the first picture the mintmark, circled in red, is worn. It was a P for Philadelphia. In the forth photo, that is damage from a coin rolling machine machine. The TR in TRUST is from circulation wear. All normal.

There are members, here, who use a phone camera with pretty good success. I'm not one of those. There have been many discussions on the subject. Perhaps someone will chime in or you can start a new thread on this specific subject and get some help. ~ Chris
