I know I shouldn't feel like I have to respond every time someone comes along and says something that's either inaccurate or incomprehensible. But I'm a lawyer. Wanting to get the last word is in my blood!
And it was made clear in the post that responding to that offensive comment with a quote is also violating the rules.
Yep. Only if there are circumstances which seem to require it. But oh, believe me, I would have loved to sweep this thread off to Purgatory, except that would have only caused even more whingeing and gnashing of teeth, à la the Streisand Effect. So here it remains, until and unless... well... unless. Yeesh. We're in it for the long haul, it seems. Oh well. *whistles nonchalantly*
I'm not disputing that. All I'm saying is that I didn't know then that the quoting was against the rules, but I know it now, and so does everyone else. Since no punishment was meted out, it's all academic anyway, and so is your showing up at this late date to chide people without actually knowing what happened. Please let the whole thing rest.
When I last applied for a job I was told they wanted somebody who is responsible. I proudly told them I was the person they wanted because at my other jobs I was always being told I was responsible.
You are obviously familiar with the term jurisprudence, part of which is 'prudence' - Prudence is the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason. It is classically considered to be a virtue, and in particular one of the four Cardinal virtues. The need to emote in response to triggering trolls is not prudent - ignore and report is the more rational alternative
Thank you for your service Sir. My father (E6) gave his "all" in Viet Nam in July, 1966 while searching for a solder from his squad, who didn't return from a patrol. That was his last patrol and was supposed to be on a flight back to the states but his replacement was late into the zone.
Hi friends, I'm late to the "party" and it saddens me a lot to read what I read in those 11 looong pages. Correct me if proven wrong, but what I understand is : The troll comes, whatever they write or say puts a blast in this wonderful and friendly community, leading the mods to kick the troll out (well deserved apparently) and we need more than 215 messages to stick together again ? OK, I'm french, I probably don't get all and every subtleties in english, we french people are often seen from your side of the pond as unruly, rude and unpolite gaulishs, but all this mess reminds me of an Asterix album (available in english) and titled "Asterix and the roman agent" : Caesar is really fed up with this gaulish village, the only one he hasn't conqueered yet. To get rid of them by cunning where he can't beat them by force (they're unbeatable as a group, just as we should here), he sends an agent to cause trouble. Long story short Trollus (not his actual name but it sounds appropriate ) is about to succeed when the gaulish tribe realizes they have a lot to loose in disputes and everything to gain at being united. Pax my friends (I don't know you in real life, but some of you I consider as good friends, and I would be devastated should only one of you leave the forum because of someone who is nothing to any of us) Q
I missed the thread and from what it sounds like I really did not miss much other than some individual trying to impress us with STUPID. How did it get through? Are there no monitors? I made a statement about NYC and got a notice that my statement was not acceptable. How did this one get through??
I have been told by those close to me, that just as I said the stupidest thing possible.......I keep on talking.
