1974 D Lincoln

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Jessica L McClellan, Jul 7, 2020.

  1. I have a 1974 Lincoln penny and the D kind of looks tilted to the right is it normal for this year . The rim also looks like the left side is doubled .

Mint Marks before 1990 were hand punched into the Obverse Die so sometimes they are not always in the exact spot or position. That's why it could look tilted.
It is normal for that year and all other years.

The issue on the rim is due to a minor misaligned die strike only with the Obverse Die. It is a slight double rim. A very minor issue that you will see on many other coins.

BTW the term Doubled would only be used when reffering to a doubled die variety.

The misaligned die strike is a very minor and common error. The mint mark issue is normal.
