So i've bought this one on ebay as i thought it's interesting, but i have no clue about it! I think there's a king/warrior with an axe on the obv. and a cross on rev.! Sorry for the poor picture, it's the seller's and i've just tried to make it a bit brighter , to have the details more visible! Any thoughts are appreciated!

An excellent place to start would be with the diameter and the weight of your coin. Doing so should help narrow down a Numista search.

Yeah, my apologies, I just realized that. I kind of get ahead of myself when people post coins they are trying to identify.

    Edit: @PaulTudor

This was the closest coin I could match yours too on Numista. Nonetheless, this should provide a good starting point for narrowing down a more concrete attribution.

Very much on the right track with Hungary's use of the patriarchal cross. I'd bet the coin depicts Sigismund, who is often shown with an axe on coins (https://www.moneymuseum.com/de/muenzen?&id=1425). These should hopefully help you narrow down. Good luck!

The thing is that a few other hungarian kings that followed him also dispaly an axe on obv. ,but this only makes it more interesting, in a funny way i'm happier for buying this cheap little coin than spending a few hundreds on one of my large talers. Here's a very nice doc. that i've just found about hungarian coins:

    Edit:

Just found the Corpus Numorum Hungariae from 1899 and it looks similar to a denar(billon probably) of Wladislaw III/Ulaszlo but i'm not sure yet. Sadly i have the Lajos Huszar catalogue of hungarian coins back home !

@PaulTudor after some rest, I did some research. No luck on helping to narrow it down, but saw that several rulers were depicted with the axe. I do think that Laszlo is likely the ruler you are looking for. Hope you can nail it down!

As soon as i get the lot, because i bought 5 little medieval ones, i'll be able to investigate more!I have to agree that i enjoy buying cheap mystery coins when i get the chance and i also need to get out of the talers world more often and try something else too!

The obv. seems to show a head looking right!
I’m not using Numista a lot, though I have most of my talers collection marked there , just to help the statistics:)) Can’t believe that some people actually use the Numista’s rarity index as a reference for the mintage of some coins!

Numista is a great resource for identification and for keeping track of a collection. However, it isn't an infallible resource as many entries are without photos or non-existent for that matter. For example, the coin I've posted below doesn't even have a Numista entry. In my opinion, the first coin you posted today appears French, but I wouldn't put all my chips on such an attribution.

I know for sure that there’s many talers missing from Numista, but it’s a helpful place without a doubt!
