I got this when I was around ten from a junk bin for a couple of bucks because I always like odd denomination coins , it just turned up today. I am planning on upgrading an would like to know if this junker is worth more then melt (I plan on keeping I have a strange soft spot for ugly coins)
Yeah, that's an ugly kind of damage -- but the date and mint mark are clear, and so is the design. Yours is certainly better than this one, which got $25 shipped on eBay. I'd argue yours is in the same league as this one, which just brought $35. The damage here isn't as unsightly, but there's a lot more wear. Edit: I didn't see there was actually a hole through the middle of OP's coin; I thought it was just central damage. I think that puts it more in the league of the first coin above, not the second.
easily traded for a similar valued coin. Lots of folks making a 7070 set of holed contemporary coins. Offer it in the classifieds here for trade or sale and see what you get for it.
I agree its monetary value is $20-$40 in auction, HOWEVER its worth more then that to you, It looks like someone may have put this around a necklace? you could do that as well, I also agree Ugly coins can be very attractive in their own right. Think of there some of those coins from those years have been! Imagine the saloons? That's the allure of coins people just cant put a finger on it, the mystery is worth something as well Have a great day!!
