    Hello everyone,
Boy am I tired.. But exhilarated! :woot:

This morning I completed a 3 day Metal Detecting hunt with my brand new Phoenix Shovel. I love it!

    DAY 1
I spent a few hours over at that sweet spot where I have been finding US Silver and Wheat Cents. I didn't do to well. I think I wiped out all the good stuff!

    1 - Silver Roosevelt
    6 - Wheat Cents

    The rest.. 20200705_123140(1).jpg

    Day 2
So I did something different. Near the park I have been detecting for about 10 years now there is another smaller park. I have never detected there.
I did really good but cut the hunt short because I got dehydrated in the hot weather again..:dead:

    2 - Silver Roosevelt Dimes
3 - Winged Liberty Head Dimes
    39 - Wheat Cents

    The rest

    Day 3
    My best morning!
Same new park and wonderful finds!
8 Silver US Coins.. A record for me in one day.

    1 - Silver Washington Quarter
5 - Winged Liberty Head Dimes
    2 - Silver Roosevelt Dimes
50 - Wheat Cents (Thats a entire roll!)

I'm satisfied with my 3 morning Metal Detecting hunt. As many of you know I purchased a new Digging Shovel. It worked very well. The holes and plugs were perfect. I was able to find my coins quickly and then close up the holes with almost no evidence that I was there.

Very nice finds Paddy! Who says the government melted silver? It's all lost in NYC. Glad you had a great time. :)

@masterswimmer - I travel light. I have a small Backpack, a Vest to hold my handheld digger and pinpointer and a small pouch that goes around my waist for the coins, spray bottle, detecting permit and a can of pepper spray for protection!
I carry the Metal Detector and the new Phoenix shovel by hand.

That third photo with all of your equipment and coins in the glove is a perfect sales photo. You should send it in to each equipment manufacture and some magazines and maybe pick up a few extra bucks.

    Yes.. I DID IT TODAY!
1 bottle of semi frozen water and 1 very cold Gatorade. I felt much better drinking cold liquids every half hour for the 4 hours I did this morning!

Those are some cool finds! Just recently started metal detecting, and so far haven't found anything worth while. Is there a trick to know whether the signal is legit or not? I went metal detecting at a park. Started walking around a bit and the detector said there was a quarter about 8 in. under, and so I started digging. It was a solid signal, beeping every time I moved my detector over the spot. Moved it back and forth about 20 times. But, once I got about a 8 in. down, I didn't find anything. So, I must have dug in the wrong spot, right? Well, I turned my metal detector back on, and moved it over the area. Nothing for a full 30 seconds, until finally it found a signal again. It was a few inches away from where I was digging. Same depth. Same metal. And almost the same signal number. So I dug there. But still, I didn't find anything. Then, I turned on my metal detector and moved it around the same area for a full 5 minutes, but it couldn't find a signal. Never found whatever it was. Just bad luck? Or am I doing something wrong? FYI, this has happened before.

P.S. - Is there a video on this hunt?

The same thing has happened to me. Sometimes a detector will pick up the smallest objects. Like a tiny piece of scrap or a very worn coin. I have dug big and deep without realizing that the tiny object that gave me the same signal as a quarter or any other coin actually popped out of the hole and landed nearby.. It is so annoying!

No YouTube videos this time. It is so hot and didn't want to do exert more energy into creating one. It would of been a very good video!
I really need to get a GoPro 7 with a head or body strap!

The problem is that every Detecting machine is different. It is just learning it and understanding the numbers.. for example. On my Whites Classic 5ID silver would be a certain number, then on my Minelab CTX3030 it would be 12.27, but then on my new Minelab Vanquish 440 in is any number between 27 and 40 so I dig it all!

    Here are my 3 machines..

My alarm wakes me up at 4:30 am.. I'm out the door by 5:00 and reach my destination on foot by 5:15.. It is definitely cooler early in the morning. And since I am by a river sometimes I get a nice breeze from East to West.. Less people around also!

Looks like you had a great 3 day excursion. Nice finds.

Thanks for the equipment rundown and SpecOps means for carry. I should also add the pepper spray to the list. Don't need every defense to be fatal. The Phoenix is a scary weapon in and of itself.

Sadly today will be the last time I ever wear that vest. It is about 15 years old and I have used it for fishing also. You can't see the issues but the collar on the back ripped open when I washed it today and both main pockets have holes so I cant really put anything into them. It's reached its end! :(

Here are pictures of me wearing the vest over the years..

I know the feeling of retiring an old piece of clothing. Break in your new vest and before you know it you'll feel like it's part of you, just like the old one.

I have an old, 40+ y/o, red & black checkered, Pendleton hunting jacket that my 30 year old daughter has already staked her claim on when I leave this party. FYI, the reason I say the jacket is over 40 y/o is because I bought the jacket in 1980 from a Thrift store in NH while I was in college, thus guaranteeing it's at least 40 y/o. This jacket is made like no other garment I own. Indestructible! And as you can see in the attached pic, it still looks brand new. Honestly, it could be 60 years old for all I know.

Best of luck with your new vest buddy!
