Thought possibly a corrosive reaction but the D in dime and un UNUM are not effected

It doesn't look like there's any difference in the letters to me. Just my opinion.
looks like a peeled planchet prior to strike. I have a few like that on cents

It was struck from a very worn die and it appears to have reverse planchet issues.
Planchet error. Happy 4th be safe
I agree with the above, planchet issue and environmental damage.
