Post your favorite modern commemorative coin or coins. Give a reason why you like it best. Have quite a few Commemorative coins, but since I was a literature major in college and grad School, the Mark Twain has become one of my all time favorites.
I don't have a photo on hand...but my favorite is the 1999 George Washington $5 commemorative. I have always loved the Washington Quarter and the gold commemorative almost seemed like a classic re-look at the design just as they were phasing it out. I've also always loved the 1995 $5 Civil War Gold. I don't own one, but I love the design. I really wanted to love the Apollo 11 commemorative as I am a huge space junkie...but I just couldn't get past the design. I just don't like it.
I am not American but this proof commemorative with it's evocative and powerful art/engraving is the favourite of all my commemorative issues
I agree...I really like that one. To me, it's powerful imagery of what this country is supposed to stand for.
The U.S. mint has flooded the market with modern commemoratives so the choice is too hard for me to have only one favorite. I prefer one of the older 56 minted commemoratives from 1904 to 1954, but that's just me.
Shoot.......gots too many 'favs'. I've been an admirer of 'Twain' since I was a kid. His humor and down to earth thinking has always kept me grounded. I'm not a member of the Lions Club, but I gotta say I love the Lions on the reverse of the commem. I love the symbolic nature of the 2014 Civil Rights commem.......the three flames intertwined symbolizing freedom of education, freedom to vote, and freedom to determine ones' destiny.
56? I thought it was 59 (50 halfs + 9 gold). 1904? I thought it was 1892/93. https://earlycommemorativecoins.com/ ------------- Anyway...modern commems is the topic... I have one and I have it because it goes with the two early commems I have. AND BOATS! In order... 1893 Columbian Expo...(Yay Columbus!)... 1920 Pilgrim...(Yay Pilgrims!)... 1992 Columbus...(Yay Columbus!)...
Lets see some fireworks! This one is nice. 2 founding fathers, the great emancipator, and a champion for our country's natural resources!
