    As I was reading this post, I was thinking a publication I obtained from somewhere was relevant. Then with your post, Ardatirion, I think so even more. What I have is a Royal Numismatic Society, Special Publication No. 57, London, 2019, that sounds a lot like the subject of this post. It's called Tokens: Culture, Connections, Communities. I wonder if I can attach it here. I'll try (sorry - too large). It's probably available from one of those URLs you provided. Interesting stuff. I knew nothing about tesserae before. Thanks for broadening my horizons!

    My only tessera.

    tessera.jpg Æ12 Tessera. Rome mint. Crescent and stars series.
    Obv: Draped bust of Serapis right, wearing calathus.
    Rev: Three stars over crescent.

    Very cool... I wonder if that is a grain token.

    Thx Alegandron. Frumentariae and Nummariae were handed out by magistrates to be exchanged for food or money.
