It is PMD. To my knowledge there are no varieties of 1981 Lincoln Cents and certainly no overpunched mint marks. Like stated above copper is soft and easily moved. The coin looks like it spent time face down on pavement.

That is just damage from being use and abused and not a mint error coin.

Really?? How does a d get a clear s from wear and tear? I'm not so sure

I thought there was also overpunch on his face? Does anyone see that?

    It is damaged PMD.
Could be altered, it did not happen at the mint.

I guess that's always a possibility but is there a chance that they haven't found an s over d yet?

The whole obverse is covered with scrapes and gouges, the marks on Lincoln's face, and the mint mark are just damage.

So it wouldn't be worth anything more than a penny?

There is always a possibility. The problem is that the mm does not have any chatacteristics of being as struck.
When a coin shows circulation and damage. You should make the acception that the mm is also most likely damaged.

It's not a S/D mintmark. It's damaged, you can see the hits. No, you are not the first one to find an S over a D.

I think all the 1981 S cents are proofs.

Does everyone agree this coin is worthless. For some reason I believe it to be a diamond in the rough. . Idk. I'm happy everyone is taking time out to look!
