As I said, in hand you would see that there is not “much luster loss.” The coin is incredibly clean for an AU coin. Not suggesting that it is MS— It is definitely a slider. That is “old school” grading, in my opinion. To me, it is a lightly circulated AU. 58 would make sense.
I know you didn't and I can see how you thought that I pointed the statement towards you. I thoroughly agree that this should never see a slider grade and if one of the grading company's do I would never buy a coin in a slab again. Unless it is an old slab. I could see this with a CAC today but I cannot see a slider no matter how much someone wants it to be.
Their is no doubt that this coin is a very nice looking coin. I never doubted AU. The coin clearly shows not only high point luster loss AU58. But it shows field loss in every area of the coin this drops the coin to 55 or less depending on the grader. I would be very proud to have bought the coin at AU50. It is a pretty coin. Just one that should never be in an MS or slider category.
I can live with that. I am happy with the coin. I would be slightly more liberal with the grade, but hey—that is why there are opinions.
