How come as a seller I have like 48 hours to ship the item to the seller, but when they return the item, they get a full month? And I'm not talking about the 30 day return policy. Once they initiate the return, they get another 30 days to ship the item back to the seller. So if they wait until the 30th day to invoke the return policy, that coin could be out of the seller's inventory for 2 full months.
Because a lot of what eBay does doesn't make sense. They have tried to push pretty much every policy to be buyer friendly (with little regard to the small sellers).
Very few of the ebay sellers I've dealt with adhere to the shipping policy. I gave up and now just hope my purchases will show up. I have had very few that I have wanted to return and a few others I wish I had. I'm more inclined to return an item IF the seller was slow to ship. A look at the date stamp on the shipping label is important, though, since often it's the fault the USPS. One coin sat in a southern CA post office for 11 days recently.
Agreed with @CamaroDMD As an occasional seller, I hate not being able to leave any negative feedback for unscrupulous or deadbeat buyers.
If dealing in coins is your main income, then yeah I understand that it is probably frustrating, but to me as a teenager who sells coins just for a bit of extra money here and there, it doesn't really matter to me because I know that I will get the coin back eventually. I agree with ddddd though... ebay does lots of stupid things.
Its all about buyers. I know sellers are somewhat important, but you can have the greatest site in the world, and without buyers no one makes anything. The internet has millions of sites trying to sell you things, that is what Ebay is competing with. They have to make it as attractive to buyers as possible. Now, the FEES are ridiculous nowadays I hear. That is the fault completely of management. They should lower fees to encourage more sellers, while keeping the site a buyer friendly place.
The fees for coins are 6% with a store subscription. That hasn’t changed in all the years on E-Bay. But requiring a 14 day return policy and then giving buyers another month to return a coin is insane. A guy bought a coin from me on 6/1/2020, it was delivered on 6/4/2020, at which point he filed for a return. About a week later I get a letter in the mail saying he’s unhappy with the coin but he’s keeping it because it is just too hard to find. But technically, he still has until 7/4/2020 to return the coin. Then on 6/15/2020, he buys another coin from me. This coin was not toned and I was confident he would be happy with this one. Coin was delivered on 6/22/2020 and guess what happens next? He files for another return and has until 7/23/2020 to return it. I want to block him but if he tries to buy another coin it will spur him to return the original coin that he first wanted to return but has now decided to keep.
The 30 day policy is over doing things. I occasionally sell industrial electronics parts. The buyer can install the item, burn it up and ask for a return. The same when I sell DVD's. They can watch them, even boxed sets, and then ask to return/refund. The 14 day policy was sufficient.
Honestly I would say to just block them from buying and stop the bleeding. Also be proactive and contact eBay by phone with all the relevant information, as much as they frustrate me they will sometimes just eat the cost themselves if you have a long history and talking to someone does give the best chance. If the person is doing the same thing over and over you might win too, but the computer will hammer you every time. Either way do yourself a favor and don't give them the opportunity to repeatedly do this and block them
That's definitely not right and they are taking advantage of the system. Blocking them is probably best although it's up to you to decide. As far as fees, there were increases over the last few years. Coins are now 6.15% vs the prior 6%, the cost of the eBay store went up (it was $20 and then bumped up to $28 per month), and the top rated seller discount used to be 20% off fees and that was reduced to 10%.
There is a seller somewhere in the midwest who blocked me as a buyer years ago. Why? I bought dozens of coins from him at one time. The problem was that he did not send half the coins. He seemed a nice person from his correspondence, so I made no threats to report him, but he never did send the coins he owed me. No, they weren't expensive ones, just some from presidential dollar series. Years later after having completely forgotten about this seller, I unknowingly purchased a coin from this guy. It was then that I found out he blocked me. As an ebay buyer and seller for the past 21 years, I can tell dozens of stories about buyers who cheated me by returning trash and claiming to ebay that I misrepresented a collectible item. There is no way that I would chance selling a rare coin to ebay buyers for fear that I would sell them a high grade coin, then be accused of sending trash.
I have always though that to be completely irrational. I think a 7 day return policy makes sense for both parties.
Should really be more like 3 days, but yea 7 should be the max not 14 or the 30 they want for the small discount
This is just another Ebay ploy to shoot the seller in their foot. At one time I sold thousands monthy on ebay. Then all the rules started 1 no longer to pay or be paid by check MO, or other methods than Pay Pal. 2 seller can't give feed back 3 sellers who havent link their bank account , limited by holding their cash from payment for 90 days 4 trying to make the seller to offer free shipping. 5 wanting the seller to ship world wide 6 not backing the seller in a dispute , when all facts point to buyer fraud. 7 milking the seller every chance ,to increase fees. So in the beginning a seller could make a few bucks, then by the end of the day you were working for e bay...and your profit margins dropped like a rock. But the real kicker.... you a small time dealer on ebay ,getting a negative feed back, yet large ebay store owners who sell more than you who had negative feed back got breaks do to their sales figures. Ebay became only concern was $$$$$$$! So the back bone of their business <sellers> they took a major dump on .
