Life does imitate art. This is cross between the time George takes a book into the bookstore restroom and it gets FLAGGED and Elaine is trying to see a doctor about a rash and gets blackballed by every doctor in town. The mint is big brother ...I wondered what flagged really means? Did they start an FBI File? Request a partriot act wire tap? How deep does this go? Are they monitoring your Internet usage and reading this thread at this very moment? Hmmmmmm... Just call them back and pretend like you never had the first conversation ..and play nice.
I would echo Andrew's thoughts. I've spent my time in telephone support and customer service. I find it very hard to believe they have a "flag" field. If such a beast exists, the telephone rep would not have the right or authority to "flag" you without an explanation and an accompanying aproval of a supervisor. I just don't see it happening. I imagine that if you had a recording of that phone conversation and the person's name, you could get them fired. They were pulling your leg.
This reminds me of the Seinfield episode where Elaine got a "flag" in her medical records as a troublesome patient. She tried changing doctors but the "doctor network" was able to track her and forward the flag to all doctors she visited.
That is hillarious... I can just see myself in this situation. Thanks everyone for their feedback. I am away at a business meeting, but when I return early next week I will make a phone call to the mint to "verify" my flagged status. I have calmed down quite a bit from last week, but still a little peeved from all the troubles. Also, someone will get a letter about my poor service.... whether I write into Coin World, Numistmatic News or any of my congressional leaders, someone must hear about this. I will keep you all posted as to any outcomes. As to returning the coin and ordering a new one, I am not going to bother. The aggrivation is not worth the $70 I will save. What's spent is spent. Now I just have to wait to receive the coin. If it takes another few weeks for it to come in, then you will see me on another rant.
Well, holy crap.... guess what is set to be delivered on monday.... well you guessed it..... the Jackson FS that I ordered. I just received an email this evening notifying me that it was shipped out today. Lets see in what condition it arrives and hope that I don't have to return it to be replaced. As I mentioned, I wont return the coin so I could get the credit, its just not worth the headache.
jacervone, You're not the only one... Although the CS agent I dealt with was very helpful and even sympathetic. Although I cannot receive the difference as you and I would both prefer she told me to do what you will not... purchase at the lower price and return the one I have "no questions asked." As long as it is within the 30 day return policy.
See this is what happens when you don't have anger blocking sound reasoning. Thanks for the great advice.... in fact, I am kinda embarressed for not thinking about that myself. Great to see another FS collector on board. Joe
Well, I just got off the phone with a fantastic CS rep from the US mint. I told her the entire story that I have posted here and what happened and explained to her that I was concerned that I would be labled a trouble maker or flagged should I return a coin because it is truely defective or damaged. She was incredibly apologetic and assured me that conversation should not have taken place. I also apologized for my unpleasant behavior and that it was not usual for me to behave in such a way. Im in sales so I know how it is to deal with irrational customers and I typically behave in a very respectful way, even if I know the customer is wrong and I am right... which is nearly all the time. She looked in my account and assured me that there was no comments at all that reflect that entire conversation. All that was noted was the conversations that I had with the 4 CS reps who were telling me that my address wasn't matching up with my credit card #. The mint CS reps do have the ability to document anything that is said during a call and can note these comments in your account at the mint. But I was also assured that these comments, should they have been documented, would have absolutely no impact on future ordering. The only time they would have even looked at the comments was if there were a problem such as me returning a coin, then that may have been an issue. Fortunately, I can rest easy tonight and enjoy my new FS coin that came in today.
People have really been abusing the return system the past few years...ordering coins that were perfectly good, sending them in to a grading company hoping for a 70, then cracking out the 69s and lower and returning them as "defective."
How do you recreate the mint capsules they came in? Seems like the mint would not allow you get a hold of these to prevent exactly what you are describing.
