If all quarters after 1965 should weigh 5.6 grams and this 1960 weighs 6.1 grams and has this area of flaking in question, does that suggest that this quarter could have been plated or other PMD? DSCN2238.JPG DSCN2246.JPG DSCN2257.JPG DSCN2258.JPG

1960 is silver homie. It "should" weigh more.

More than a little embarrassed. When reading the weights I totally mixed the dates/weights. Of course the silver content, duh me!

why compare the weight of a post 1964 quarter to a pre-1964 quarter, knowing that they are different weights?

I am just starting into coin collecting, having spent most of the time looking at pennies. We (my grandson) and I just started with quarters lately. So when I got two quarters I bought a 1944 and this 1960, ( the 1960) silver finish looked strange. I looked at it under scope a saw the flaking and areas that looked like they were almost "heavy" with silver. So, my inexperienced mind said maybe this coin had been played with and plated. Thus, my attempt to weigh it and compare to other 60's quarters. I totally had a brain fart on the years and weight I admit. Sorry for trouble!
