The trouble with having a dead president put on a coin is getting them off even beyond the twenty-five years I think is the minimum time a circulation coin can be changed. Ater saying that if it won"t be done I would like to see the American bulllion coin (ASE) changed every five to ten years or so to some of our great coins in our history. A one ounce standing liberty, indian head (cent), flying eagle and etc. I not say ing the current ASE is not a beautiful coin, but it would be easier to change politically, and would celebrate our older coin masterpieces. If we could ever get any dead presidents off our coins I think the new designs should be something totally new going back to miss liberty looking good.

the only thing about this is I'm getting sick of seeing rehashed old designs. There isn't that many of them and many are better on an old coin made with old technology than they are to be used now.

The Eagle Commens this year really should open our eyes to what is possible on our coinage.

It does seem like the mint would see what happens. I agree in part with the "rehash" part, but the mint does need to upgrade our coins. Replace the dead presidents with something other than other dead presidents. FDR in my opinion was our greatest president, I don't want to start a political debate here, but I say this because as much as I respect him his dime is no mercury dime. He has been on the dime since 1946, I think our nation has paid its respects, so lets move on. But can you imagine the uproar if he was attempted to be taken off the dime. The same is true about Kennedy/Washington/Lincoln. Probably the easiest pres. to remove might be Jefferson. Once you put one of them on a coin they stay. I don't think any coin made for circulation should ever have a real person on it. With our technology now Miss Liberty could really make some beautiful coins.

Thats what I was thinking. Our forefathers thought the bird wasn't "stately" enough. Yet, it represents more to this country than an eagle. Plus they're good eating.

Be careful here. The next thing we'll have the 50 state, state animal commemerative set of quarters, the presidental family portrait dollar series, or the federal holiday commemerative quarter series. Seriously, some beautiful coins could be made with railroads.

Keep the eagles, lose dead presidents. All good suggestions in this post but I think the various incarnations of the eagle should stay.

Yes, I like all the eagle designs past and present except the eaglets. They look like cheap copies of a Ray Harryhausen stop action film.

I'd have to draw it myself. I can, but I need to get my tablet up and working.

Epidemiologists estimate that of the Native Americans who died, 90-95% of them died due to germs introduced by Europeans long before there was an America.

The term "concentration camp" comes not from the Germans, but the British.

Ethnic cleansing is a term coined by Europeans about European actions - recent actions at that. I have personally settled survivors right here in my home town.

Nothing America has ever done can begin to compare to European genocide in Nazi Germany or, more recently, Bosnia / Herzegovina / Kosovo.

So yes, there is much for us to "not forget".

Let they who are without sin cast the first stone.

Sorry, in my search for a suitable subject (beaver) I came across, of all things, leave it to beaver.....hence Gerry Mathers. Then I stumbled upon beaver stadium, home to Penn St. my favorite college team.

    Mea Culpa.....
