Something seems "off" with this coin, I just received with another 1944 I bought. This flakey peeling looks almost like it was plated with something and is peeling. It is also very scratched around the edges. What are your thoughts please?

Damage and die polishing in my opinion. Very common with quarters from the 1960s since they exhausted the dies.

1960 coin. I can not believe this flake has not broken off, I can put a pin under it. Strange.

When posting a coin please post full shots obv. & rev.then area in question. Without being able to read the coin will only cause wrong or no answers.the other reason in some cases there are other PUPS= PICK UP POINTS they can help id a variety, or rare coin.

As @Paddy54 stated, the area(s) in question can often be analysed differently or more accurately when the entire obv/rev can be seen.

Thank you, I was having a very difficult time with this coin to show you all what I saw. I will take to my work place and use their camera for better pics. Update coming.

Hope these pics give a better look, the "flake" on the back of head (in the hair.) It is still connected, but can fit a pin point under it. DSCN2239.JPG DSCN2246.JPG DSCN2255.JPG DSCN2256.JPG DSCN2258.JPG

...much better...so I am thinking this would be a planchet flaw, right?…NICE coin...

silver so nothing to do with cladding...would it still be a lamination issue?…………Spark
