I really never saw a mark like that the only thing it could be a filled mint mark not sure a weird one. Jazzcoins joe
I think maybe a crack in the MM , and when the MM develops a crack so chips fall out making the deeper . JMO rzage
I meant the MM on the die :headbang:, if it chips and some pieces fall , out when minting a coin the MM on the coin will be higher due to the extra space in the dies MM cavity . rzage:hail:
No problem Cheryl , I flunked English so many times , it's hard to write what I mean . rzage:hatch::hammer:
Just went back and read my post , I don't even know what I wrote . No wonder I flunked English . rzage
Damaged mintmark on the coin, yes it has taken a hit on the bottom corner and pushed the metal to the center of the mintmark.
But if the MM on the coin took a hit woulddn't the edges be sharper and not rounded ? Also the whole MM looks filled in not moved over , rzage
looking at the coins many times, I the coin didn't take a hit, The D is almost filled in. The die could have been damaged durning minting. Thanks for the help. Cheryl
That's just it they ARE sharp! Look at that entire MM. It is rounded every where EXCEPT where it took that hit in the corner. The sides of the mint mark come up and then bang, a sharp clean edge where it becomes that little triangular plateau and the corner of the MM was scraped over creating the diagonal across the opening in the center of the MM.
