Wow, your poll shows Roman Republic in the lead! When I first came to CT, there were very few of us collecting RR’s.. @Bing and @Mikey Zee that were active! Fun to see a bunch more of us to migrate to the threads!

We're lumped in with the Imperialists in this poll, though!

Naw, that did not come until Augustus. @akeady meant lumping the Imperatorial period with The Republic... The Imperatorial period was perhaps Marius through Octavian. I personally feel from the Gracchii through Octavian.

Marius? The Gracchi? The standard definition of the Imperatorial period is 49 BCE (the outbreak of war between Pompey and Caesar) to 27 BCE (when Octavian was given the title "Augustus"). See David Sear's book on the coins of the Roman Imperators, covering that exact period (https://www.davidrsear.com/roman_imperators.html) I've never heard of anyone trying to redefine the period the way you suggest.

I collect silver coins from about 46 BCE to 96 CE. For the last few years I have been focussing on the Flavians and in particular Domitian. I find the denarii of his first year particularly fascinating. While there are some Domitian rarities I will never own because of rarity and costs, there are many interesting coins of him at very modest prices. If you are interested in coins of Domitian take your time when you see a listing from an auction house. Quite often his coins are misattributed. I have been able to grab quite a few rarities because many do not read the legends on the coins. Do not trust the attribution in the coin description-look it up yourself. One of the best investments I ever made was RIC II part one (2007). I think my collection currently consists of around 120 coins.

i look at the Imperatorial period as when you had Imperators controlling Legions to Control the Republic. Marius had 7 Consulships, whom rivaled with Sulla, and on down the line until Julius Caesar murdered the Republic. However, I feel it goes all the way back to the Gracchi Brothers, whose failed reforms lead to the Social War...

I don’t define it by the coins, rather the History of Leaders whom systematically dismantled the Republic.

Unfortunately, so called migration age coins (Germanic kingdoms) are not represented in the poll. This area is my main area of interest: Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Vandals, Gepids, Franks, Burgundians, Langobards and Anglo-Saxon/Frisian sceatta.

Hard choice, since I basically collect all AV coinage from past 27 centuries. I now only have time for coins from 6:00-6:30AM, since I go to work at 7:00 get home around 9:30PM.
But, use my daily 30 minutes to scroll on sixbid site and formulate my proxy bids. So far I was successfull winning 22 coins in past two months:)

Right now my collection is limited to Roman Imperial from Julius Caesar to Constantine. I have more interest in the history than I am in getting every variety there is. Just looking the Sear books, which leave a lot out, shows me how huge the topic is.

Since hammered English gets posted here, I collect that as well.

No - I meant the Empire too - The Republic and Empire are lumped as one category, which is probably why there are so many of us!

Oh! I misread it as TO the Empire. Wow, lol, now it is too general to be a poll.

Roman imperial for now but it will extend into republic and byzantine. I started on ebay with a modest goal of collecting a Denarius/Antoninianus for every emperor :). Using reputable sellers it was easy enough to secure the more common types (over the past 2 years) in the £10-£25 range. During the lockdown additional time has allowed a deeper study of the hobby and jumping into the auction houses to acquire the £200+ range.

For number 2, is that also called Roman Provincial? Can you clarify, I'm kind of new. From the few books I read already, my understanding is there's ancient greek coinage, like Athens; Roman Republic; Roman Imperial; and Roman Provincial which I'd define as Roman Republic and Imperial but made at different provinces within the empire/boundary of Rome (?) and with Greek letters. Not sure though

By "Greek Imperial" I'm referring to those provincial coins struck mostly in the Greek-speaking areas of the Roman Empire, but issued by the Roman emperors.
