Not me, though I would be a logical suspect if the terms coins+hoarding were spoken together.

 

I don't suppose it would even occur to them to stop making pennies since lobbyists want pennies even if they are worthless and toxic. Indeed, they could save money and resources by destroying all the pennies and strip already in the system and recalling the things as soon as bank lobbies are reopened.

 

Logic+government+benefitting citizens? Surely you haven't seen our government operate the last 40 years......

 

In Maryland as well neighboring states havent opened the coin stars and other counters as such.
At one time the stores I visit i would see the coin star guy service the machines.
I havent seen a rep. for coin star or other companies that have counters in stores.and most machines are blocked unplugged, out of service.
All the coins from these machines is recycled to the banks.

 

Nickles are a waste of time, too. We need higher denominated (silver) coins...imho.
$5, $20, $100...something worth collecting. Coins today aren't even worth the effort of cashing in at the bank.

There is only one coin machine operating around me. All the banks that I usually dump at are still closed. I am sitting on somewhere around $1500 worth of cents. Not intentionally hoarding. Just can't offload.

 

Good point. Almost no one takes back coins anymore. Consumers are given change, then if they want to deposit them back either have to get ripped off in the change counters if the bank has them, take a sizable haircut at a CoinStar, or are told to roll their change if they want to deposit it. No one is making it very easy to get them back into circulation.

I think this is different than 2009, (when the mint almost didn't have to strike coins), since this time the government is flooding the world with cash, and no one feels the need to cash in coins yet.

 

I’m not in as deep as @furryfrog02... I am guilty of being one of the hoarders though. I have just south of $1000.00 rolled up in change and it’s just too danged heavy to carry to the bank!

 

It's not intentional hoarding. We've been cleaning out the house and garage and I didn't realize how much I had!

True. I had no idea I had this much till we started cleaning out every closet and nook and cranny in the house! Ha!

 

I can think of one who is hoarding (or who has 'found' so many), because his coin roll hunting finds (of Kennedy Silvers), according to my rudimentary calculations, is about .07% of all Kennedy Silvers).

For ONE individual, that ain't far from the amount of Silver that Hunts got busted by SEC long ago, for trying to corner Silver Market.

(course, I ain't counting the one KENNEDY that he posted twice as a 'find', about 2 1/2 months apart ) (nor am I counting all the Silver that got cooked as a result of Hunts' pre-bust hoard)

I have not spent a coin in three months, and I have not received one in change. This virus has left me house bound with everything paid with credit cards and checks.

 

Sounds like it's time for the Treasury to finally unleash all those dollar coins in storage. Shortage solved!

 

GREAT IDEA! Problem is NO ONE WILL USE THEM because the treasury continues to print one dollar notes.
