The last real bargain I purchased at an antique shop was a group of 110 mercury dimes plus 1 silver roosevelt proof dime for $40.
Nope, I wouldn't have told him either. I have cherry picked about 5 or so 1864 L Indian Head cents. And no dealer will ever know that I did. I wouldn't even tell the dealer who sold me a 1909 S Lincoln that it is now in an NGC F-12 with a label that reads: 1902 VDB. Or the three dealers who sold me 1858 LL Flying eagles, that are now in ANACS holders marked: 1858/7. Nope, I'll tell you, but not them.
1927-S Mercury with a LG s like the 28-S Variety I found this on ebay with 5-6 Mercury's & Roosevelt. and the 27-S has a large s like the 1928-LG S I have submitted it to the folk who are update the Cherrypicker Guide. but have not gotten a reply.
Please post your bargains So you thought you had seen the end of this... AHA!... Never! With many thanks to budgood and his goody bags, and Arizona Jack as the kind soul who urged me to take it to Jack Beymer for verification, and AJ whom I entrusted it to submit for grading, and PCGS who gave it a very good grade, I have this delightful bargain in my collection. The coin cost about .06 cents. Two way postage and insurance to and from Arizona Jack, plus the PCGS certification, about $100.00+-. 1922 No D 1C, PCGS XF40, Strong reverse. jeankay
I may have that beat but no photos anymore. I bought a bag of "Foreign Coins and Tokens about a year ago" from a pawn shop for about 100 bucks. Its contents were 3 gold pieces (mexico) I gold 5$ Indian 1915, 1899 Canada Half Xf that was sold to Dr. Fey for around 7-8 hundred dollars and to top it off 3 17 hundred dates 8 Reales and 2 rare Saloon Tokens from California. My 100 dollars turned into 4K$ really quickly. Not trying to brag but it was amazing. The tokens I didn't realize were worth what they were until I sold one to a guy on the PCGS forums for 35$ and he turned it for $500.
hey tdec, I could live with that! good picking!! thanks lehigh for giving me the chance to brag again. jeankay
If paper money counts then this is mine. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0010-5.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0011-5.jpg I bought it when Amazon had auctions. Neither seller nor bidders really had a clue so I picked it up for $21 shipping included. A nice AU note that retails at about $650 in CU.
http://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=954522 1893 Colombian Exposition Token. From the 12 coins for $10 bin. Not that big of a deal but I like it.
A couple of years ago I was "building" a set of Peace Dollars. There was this 1934-S had great detail, but very dull and drab looking. Noone ever did on it and a few days of looking at this coin I figured out what had happened. Someone made copies of the coin from a printer and submitted them. I bid on the coin and was the only one that did make a bid. I got the coin for $44.00 with shipping and handling. The coin has got to be at least MS-60 to MS-63.
