    Hi guys,

I noticed on the reverse of this 1982 Lincoln Penny that there is a large brown patch. I It does not look like a carbon spot or toning. It looks like it's in the metal. Can someone please tell me if this is an error and if so, what type of error it could be? 1982 Lincoln Penny Obverse.jpg 1982 Lincoln Penny Reverse1.jpg

    A Stain.

But I noticed the Obverse side is a Misaligned Die Strike. Minor Mint error but it's neat.

    See the false double rim?

    It's not a small date.

Thanks for the reply. No I didn't notice the misaligned die strike error but am happy that you pointed it out. Yes, it's very nice to see this! In regards to the brown patch, what can cause a stain like this on a coin?

Thanks for clarifying this. Sorry I didn't see the '2' clearly enough.

It could be a number of things. It's been in circulation for 38 years so it could of happened during that time. Chemical stain, old adhesive that fell off.. etc. But that did not occur during the time the Cent was struck.

Thank you so much for pointing out this Misaligned Die Strike error to me. Funny I never noticed this until you pointed it out. Strangely enough, after your post, I found another 1982 Lincoln penny (large date) yesterday with the same Misaligned Die Strike on almost the same location, just as the one in my other 1982 penny, but this rim fin is a lot bigger. See photo's below..Does this mean that misaligned die strikes are common on many of the 1982 Lincoln pennies?

They sure are. I have seen many from the 1970's and the 1980's.
I have plenty of examples in my collection. And I bet you will find more now that you know what to look for!
