When we were little kids, on the 4th of July we'd burn those snake/worm fireworks. Sometimes we'd set them on a penny first, so it wouldn't leave one of those circle marks on the cement on grandma's patio. Your penny may have been damaged this way. Maybe.....maybe not. It's a possibility.
