I'm obsessed! That's my answer. I already owned three MA Legio II denarii, with at least a couple of them being decent. However, when I saw this for sale, I just had to have it (of course, the price was more than right which was an enticement). The reverse is in excellent condition, perhaps one of the best in my collection. The obverse? Well, we'll not discuss that. First, my three examples already in my collection: And my latest addition which arrived in yesterday's mail: Legio II is not rare or scarce. And in fact, had the highest concentration in the Delos Hoard of 1905. Out of nearly 600 MA Legionary denarii in that hoard there were 40 examples of Legio II as compared to 4 examples of Legio XVIII LYBICAE and zero of Legios IIII and XVIIII. Is there a cure for this obsession?
LOL, they look great! Why? Easy. Just cuz. Here is the next Legio in the camp... Roman Imperatorial Marcus Antonius AR Denarius 32-31 BCE Legio III Ship Eagle Standards Sear 1479 Craw 544-15
Yes. That's what I thought. A peaceful hobby of culture is rather a grace. You can take it either way.
Very nice reverse!...I said this once to my future wife in a less formal manner! (married now for 25 years)..So ...It worked just like your coin does.....The Obverse is worn but does show the legend North and South....I would say a good pick up.........
Great coins @Bing! I have been trying to get one of these to go with the Julius Caesar that FFIVN and I have. We keep getting outbid. We will get one eventually.
Yes, there is one cure which is 100% effective... but it is not one that any of us wants to think about! Your new reverse is phenomenal!!
Very cool reverse, indeed. From the four you show, the last one is the one I would keep. As I've shown so many times my LEG IV, my other LEG, LEG III is a bit jealous for not being in the light as often. So here she is, poor thing Q
Very nice reverse, Bing! As for the answer to your question... hmmm, let's see, so the Delos Hoard had 600 MA legionary denarii... that sounds like a good target number for your own collection if you ask me! Oh wait, you were asking about a cure for your obssession? Sorry, that sort of problem is outside of my competence...
Why, why? Because, because! "The question is not why one acts the way one does. It's what one does with ones actions." Its probably from Kung Fu panda or somewhere, i dont know. Great coins, the reverse of the fourth is especially appealing!
The general understanding is that alcohol slowly kills you, but remember some people have to drink to stay alive. I guess it's the same with coins, some people have to have their daily coin-fix to stay alive. Poor @Bing, we're all with you. Should you feel in need of talking, I'm here for you my friend, it's one denarius per session Q
