Hey all, I have the opportunity to place one of the following 1924-S Lincoln Cents in my set. The first one is already in there, the second I just bought a few days ago, and the last one I have the opportunity to purchase. Which one, do you think is the nicest coin? Not by just grading standards, but by surface, strike, eye-appeal, etc? What is your opinion, and which one would you buy? Thanks ahead of time for the replies, and here are the coins:

I'd have to go with #2 also, probably because the lighting's so good in that pic!

    #3, #2, & then #1

IMO #3 has the best strike but also has some distracting surface marks. #2 may have the best photograph. #1 may have the best original surfaces.

    I choose #3, #2, & then #1.

Please let me know when you no longer need #3 in your collection.

    Very best regards,

Man, I might need no reason to purchase number 3, as only one is going to be in my collection. :D Please keep the replies coming, and thanks to those that have replied so far!

Number one would be my top choice. #2 I am fairly certain has been scrubbed pretty good in the past. #3 is nice and original but has that minor ED spot at 2 ocklock on the reverse.

Nothing like comparing apples to oranges in the pic department. Not sure just how much is due to the pics, but I would go 3, 2, then 1.

BTW, note that both the last 2 pics are straight on as I was trying to describe with your 26-S.

Picture 3 is the most accurate picture, angle and lighting.

    Coin in order are 1-2-3

1 has the least amount of issues, 2 has a weakly struck reverse ( see America ), 3 has rim issues ( scrapes ) and some PVC damage.

Coins 1 and 2 both display the " out of parallel " dies so common with 20's decade wheats. Most call this wear when actually it is a striking issue.

The right wheat is so common weakly struck, but will be interpeted as worn. Not the case, wheat cents do NOT wear on only the right lower wheat first, they wear evenly.

    My grades? 50,50,53

    AJ,
    Question "My grades? 50,50,53" meaning #1 & #2 are 50 and #3 is 53? Or what?

    Yes
50 50 53 in order, based on ear, bowtie, shoulder and left wheat
I do not require luster at these grades, but many times it is hidden around the devices and legend

I would choose number 1. Looks like 1 was a better struck than 2. As for 3 there's a carbon spot on the reverse.
