Any generic Dutch reference books?

I'm not as familiar with Dutch coinage but keep finding myself drawn in. Is there anything like a Red Book for Dutch coinage out there?

I found this from the mint, but it doesn't cover anything pre-Napoleonic/unification.

My interests are more in the minors - duits and stuivers, etc.

Here a couple examples from my collection:

The only one that i can think of has to be ''The silver benelux' Delmonte, but i don't know if it covers minors!

Thanks! I haven't been able to see what the Delmonte contains.

I did just find a catalog of provincial coins from 1555 to 1806 that claims to supersede previous texts. This one seems to be most recent with a 2009 publication date? Everyone I can find who has it is sold out, though.

The Netherlands national numismatic association - NVMH - appears to have a fairly thorough set of books on provincial coins too.

And... apparently Russian book counterfeiters have two editions of a popular catalog from the 80s. It's so strange the things they scan in page by page.

Now I'll have to see which I can find at a reasonable price shipped to America!

This is probably the reference to get when you are getting seriously into these: WisPasson.jpg

But it is quite large and heavy, so shipping won't come cheap.

For an online catalog of low denomination coppers look at http://www.duiten.nl/catalogus.html

    Delmonte wrote two books -

The Gold Benelux is written in Dutch and French, both languages in the same book. The Silver Benelux is written in Dutch, French, and English, all 3 same book. But they do not cover the more modern coins as both were written in 1967. They are basically standard catalogs in that they are fairly complete in the coins they cover but they do not have pictures for every individual coin, but rather each type. And use what they call plates in the back of the book, many pictures all on 1 page in other words with each coin pic numbered.

You could also utilize the Krause catalogs as they include Dutch coinage as well, but they only go back to 1600. And you'd need all 5 (1 for each century) to cover all those.

The books mentioned to this point probably cover what you want to know, but no single book gives you everything. Meaning you will find in 1 that you will not find in the others, and that is true for all of them.

Now if you have any interest in more specialized information, like for Netherlands gold ducats, then you'll want this book that I played a large part in writing.

It's the only book of its kind that's ever been written and it contains comprehensive information that can be found no where else - but only about gold ducats. It also contains a complete history of the mint, the minting process from start to finish, all the mint employees, etc etc. In other words, it's not just another coin catalog - it's a complete book covering the coins and the history - including a complete variety and scarcity listing for each coin. And that's only volume 1, there is more yet to come.

    Thanks! Great stuff!

There are some questions I have that aren't answered by the dry catalog format. For example, why did they strike duits in silver in such abundance?

That catalog on ducats sounds amazing. Someday... :D
