I found this 1934 five Franc coin at CoinFest. I bought it raw & it is just screaming to be put into a TPG plastic slab. One might describe the coin as having lightly toned devices with razor sharp details floating upon creamy pools. It is a business strike that has the appearance of a specimen or proof strike. My photo does not do this coin much justice. I think that if it were a 1934 Walker with this toning & condition, then the price would be several thousand dollars. It's a Fribourg shooting coin which lists below $100. I think that some world coins are the best bargains out there. Please post your bargains. Very best regards, collect89
I found this nice war nickel. and it does have almost full steps. it was in a dealers half price bin at the coin show two weeks ago was marked 9 dollars got it for 4.50
Nice pickup Jon. My bargain is also a war nickel that I won on a Heritage auction last year. $15 for a 1945-D NGC MS65 with rainbow toning---SWEET!!!! I don't get too many deals which makes this one of my favorites.

I picked up this 1794 large cent at a small local auction (in Antwerp, Belgium) for about $ 55. It was a long time ago, but still a super deal. It was graded good to very good!
Sure it's a modern Japanese 1000 yen coin but it's the first colored coin released by the Japan Mint. Bought it at 20USD (I think) and I saw some going on ebay for over whopping 900 USD. I still can't figure out why.
That looks to be 64RB. Nice one. I hope to be able to add another to this thread. I paid $52.50 for a 67RD NTC 1929-D. It is in for slabbing right now and I am hoping for a 65RD at PCGS. Even if it comes back 64RD, it would qualify as a bargain.
I think that could easily make F-12. :thumb: They weren't known for being well struck and with as much detail is present, I wouldn't hesitate giving it a F-12 and it might even go a tad bit higher. If you ever want to get your 55 bucks back, you know who to call. Ribbit
Mike, Is that one of the coins that you sent to CAC, it looks very familiar. Oh and BTW, awesome. Paul
Hi, Lehigh! No, the coin has not yet made it to CAC. It was in the group of coins that went to Mark Feld for his review & comment, but it was raw at the time and went to PCGS for grading when the rest of the coins went to CAC...Mike p.s. that coin is my avatar on the "other" forums, and I believe I posted it in a "hone your grading skills" thread here a while ago (and on other forums, as this coin has a long and storied history, being lost/misplaced by my local dealer for over a year) -- perhaps that's where you remember it from.
that is awesome. the reverse looks very close to a Flying Eagle Cent. oh did i say that that is a very nice coin. almost looks proof like.
I am such an idiot. I just went searching all of your posts on the NGC forum to find this coin and didn't even notice that I saw it hundreds of times as your avatar. Anyway, super coin and great photo.
No real steals, but I always look for silver coins in the half price bins or in the dealer books that are underpriced. I picked up an uncirc 1941s FB (not the rare variety!) for $4 that way!:kewl:
Yeah Edwaurd, you keep telling us this story. I have inside information that you are really Prince Edwaurd, Diane's son and you are raiding the Queens vaults.. naughty boy.... Ruben
Not a bargain, just a lucky find: I bought a coin lot for $15, and found a norwegian gold 10 kroner coin from 1910, value $500. Unfortunately I later had to sell it. Not the actual coin, just the type:
Just a couple of Buffalos that came in todays mail. The nice toning on the 1930 doesn't show as well as it really is nice. I am experimenting with light sources for toned coins. The other 1913-S, type I ~~~just have a thing for 1913 buffs. Jim
