[Fun] How far chronologically can we get with Roman Emperors?

Nice one @Victor_Clark - I have had my eye open for either a Tet or Follis of Domitianus for awhile. I find it interesting that this usurper decided to follow the coinage reform of the Tetrarchs, maybe as a way of trying to assert legitimacy. However, Diocletian put Alexandria under siege and toppled Domitianus' successor Achilleus who apparently struck no coins (at least none have been discovered so far.)

What a beautiful portrait. Is there a consensus now on whether she was the wife of Carus or Carinus?

Domitianus was hoping that Diocletian would recognize his claim and struck this coinage for all the members of the Tetrarchy- Diocletian, Maximianus, Galerius and Constantius I.

    an example for Galerius

Thanks, I have been wanting an example and saw this one was up for auction and put in my bid and was pleasantly surprised to be the new owner.

Forgot to reply to this earlier. She was assumed to be the wife of Carus initially, until a dual-portrait coin was found of Urbica and Carinus, similar to the very rare issues of Aurelian/Severina.

    Unrelated question:
Since they were "legitimate" in their own way, are we holding up the thread on Valens and Martinian? I certainly don't have them, and I can't remember if anyone else has posted them either?

Last I heard, the entirety of SHA could be divided into two piles - truth and fiction. Truth is considered the smaller pile. The 30 tyrants chapter is not one of the better parts when it come to confirmable accuracy. The work was written many years after the fact and sources were not the best.

I’m sure you are right, but it’s still a fun read.

The Historia Augusta is a fun read, but as far as accuracy goes, it would be like if the only historical documents to survive about the 2016 election were Trump's tweets. Better than nothing, but....
