The only coin I carry around (besides pocket change I intend to spend) is a 2008-D Kennedy half dollar. It's a leftover from rolls I bought from the Mint. Since they don't circulate much anymore and since 2002 are really only made for collectors, every year I buy a roll each of P & D halves from the Mint, pick the best one of each for my collection, then spend the rest unless someone asks me for them. This is an extra I had left that I stuck in one of the pockets in my wallet just for the heck of it (my pocket piece used to be a 1971-S circulated proof Kennedy half that I found... once I realized it was a circulated proof I put it in a more dignifed place, but missed having a half dollar in my wallet, so this became the replacement!)
In my wallet I have some notes and some coins, but those come and go as I get and spend them of course. A pocket piece ... hmmm ... in most supermarkets here in DE you insert a €1 coin as a shopping cart deposit, so I (tend to) have one with me. But that does not have any emotional value either. I was just acrrying around a few of the Presidential dollars. But, after only about a month they became so discolored and ugly (or uglier to be more specific), I unloaded them on a co-worker who wanted them for his kids. I tried telling him they are available in uncirculated condition at the bank for a buck, but he didn't seem to believe me....so he got two purple and yellow dollars. Guy~
I was carrying a worn common date Walking Liberty half, I don't remember the date. That way if I got into a conversation about coin collecting and someone asked me what I collected, I could show them the series that I was, and still am, currently working on. I gave it to a friend a while back though. I like having an old coin in my pocket, so I need to find me a new "pocket piece".
A 1921 Morgan my dad gave me when I was a kid. Someone had painted it gold. No gold left on it today. It keeps the fifth pocket on my jeans company.
Well I guess we know how much a coin wears in 5 years . rzage PS , I'd of thought 10 or 15 yrs. for that much wear .
Yea, I tried that but she got tired of carrying them! Ooops am I ever bad! I thought you wrote "Old Bag"! Frank
Capital One.....Whats in yours?? LOL could not resist that stupid commercial! It got me thinking huh??? Most of the time I have a Peace Dollar...but sometime I change that out with a 1 0z ASE date 2002 for my son's birth year! RickieB
I carry it in the pocket I put my change in so it gets beat up by all the other coins. I try to use bigger denominations just to get the smaller change. I use it for scratch tickets(heads up) and to start a coin conversation. Almost everyone who sees it says, What's that ? Is it real ? Wow, that's old and what's it worth. A friend used to carry a Kennedy half that started out unc, in 7 years it looked like a slug. Other than some reeding on the edge it was worn smooth on both sides. Mine still has alot of pocket time left. And like the commercial says, I never leave home without it. As long as it's in my pocket I'll never be broke !.................John ps: my wife says it's been more like 6-7 years
