MS 66 5FS. I see a lot of Jefferson Nickels where the photo of the bottom steps are dark. Is there any reason for this? (Other than wear).
That area is very raised, hence why it always gets worn off very quickly. I always light my coins from above them, and so that raised area creates a shadow on the field below it.
