Hello - I am so frustrated about this international shipping from USA to UK. FedEx and UPS both tell me that they do not ship ancient coins. Here's my issue: I have just lost another $1,000 coin that I shipped to London "insured" by eBay's Ship Insurance but now that tell me coins are not insured and declined the claim. Does anyone know a way that I can ship a coin internationally? USPS tells me they can not ship a coin to the UK. All I want to do is to ship coins internationally with coverage for loss in shipment. Thanks for any input.
USPS and USPS insurance would both work or just do the global shipping program with eBay if you really want it easier. That said as you are talking about ancient coins the rules vary drastically about what can be shipped where and what customs will and won't seize in different countries
USPS has on their Prohibited list: "Coins; platinum, gold, or silver (manufactured or not); precious stones; jewels; and other valuable articles." I told them these are not current currency coins but ancient coins and still got a NO.
E bay won't give me a straight answer either. Are coins insured through eBay's Global Shipping Program?
InsurePost will not insure coins to the UK. I do use InsurePost. However, they tell me that if coins are on the prohibited list of USPS (as the UK is) they will not insure the coins. According to them, if the USPS prohibits the shipping of coins they will not be insurable.
With the eBay global shipping program once the item gets to Kentucky the sale is done for you. If they lose it or it doesn't get there from how they shipped it they cover it
That's great, I shipped an item to Israel this way in March and I still dont know if it ever arrived.
I actually had a gold coin get lost going there earlier this year that was shipped that way. I might actually switch over all international shipping to that as even countries like Australia I've been having problems with this year with everything going on
Are you listing the item on the customs form as ‘coins’ or ‘collectible Numismatics’? I have no experience in this, but wouldn’t be surprised if that streamlined things... I’m not sure I have ever received a package that had the word ‘coin’ on the customs label.
So ..... what I'm "hearing" is that there is NO WAY to ship to the UK Ancient Ccoins and have insurance/liability coverage for loss in transit. Is the really what i'm being told here? Yea or Nay - Thank you all for the replies to my post. CT people are the very best!
If it is legal to ship the coins to the UK then there are insurance options. Anytime you can ship something legally there are insurance options
That's the problem. USPO states that coins - of any shape, style or age" is Prohibited to ship to the UK.
Thats because when you ask them saying coins they think you are asking to send cash. Collectables and numismatic coins are perfectly legal to ship, there are a lot of extra laws with ancient coins you will have to look into
You can't ship coins, but maybe can you ship "tokens for study purpose" And can you ship to other countries than UK ? If the answer is yes, find a reliable pal in another country, to ship them the coin, and then from there to the UK. Q
Your mistake, as pointed out above, is using the word "coins," which triggers the response you're getting, from people who aren't lawyers and can't be expected to understand that the intent of the prohibition is to apply to currency. None of the packages I've gotten from abroad say "coins" on the customs declarations -- among other things, it's an invitation to theft. How about "numismatic collectibles"? "Old metal"? There are all sorts of things you could call it.
