If you all check out the link, it will show a video of the Morgan. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it is an ex-Aurora Borealis coin (named "Black Leopard"). My opinion is that the Morgan is fairly graded at 64 (one can argue for a 63/63+, but I'd say the hits aren't as severe as what I see on toned 63s nowadays). I'd also add that I would value it the same if it was graded 63 or 64 (as a 65 it would go for more, but I don't see it deserving a 65). The Lincoln Cent is probably close to BN (as opposed to RB), but could easily be a 63/64 (I don't quite see what caused a 62; maybe something to do with it being an error?). Regardless of grade, I liked the overall look of both coins.
It is off-center (see the reveal). I can offer that service for a small fee. You have some great tastes too, and I could say the same to you about being able to pick out coins that I would love. Based on eBay sold listings (non-errors), I paid above MS 66 RD levels for the cent. Still I think it was worth the ~$50 plus shipping.
Nice. I posted my reply before I looked at the second page and the results. I would have said star if I knew it was ngc. I thought it might be pcgs
I'd have guessed higher on the Lincoln. Cool O/C error. I reckon the ANACS plastic and the modest (perhaps undergraded) numerical grade might have kept the price more appealing. Edit- $50-ish, you say? Yep. I'd have been all over that.
Definitely textile toning on the Morgan. Grade? Morgan is NGC 64*, Cent is PCGS 64 I posted my results before seeing the second page.
It was a solid price (fortunate auction win). The Morgan from this thread made my box of 20 while the Cent barely missed (it's in the 21-40 box ).
Thank you! It, along with some other favorite coins are featured in this thread: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ddddd’s-inaugural-box-of-20.360440/ The prices seem to be getting stronger the last few years for toned Morgans. I wouldn't be surprised if your coin would sell for quite a bit more today.
I've seen some crazy auction results and wouldn't be surprised if it went well over $1k in the right venue. I don't plan on selling it though as it's one of my favorites and has the Aurora Borealis connection.
