Looks like some possible doubling on the obverse in the date and maybe other places. Probably just die deterioration tho right?
The 1964 Jefferson nickel was one of the hightest in the history of the U.S . mint....so no matter P or D they were struck til the dies exploded...so yes die deteration
For the date/mm, there is a better chance of a DDR than a DDO. Here's a link:https://www2.briansvarietycoins.com/listings/cat/37 Because of the die deterioration and the slightly out-of-focus photos, it's hard to say what you have there. Likely just a normal Jefferson nickel. But have a look and check for the markers. Good luck!!
Yea I was looking on there but the markers are so tiny I can’t tell if they’re there or not. I feel like most of the time you need a nearly perfect coin to be able to spot the little gouges and whatnot.
Some markers are better than others. When relying on light die scratches in the fields, these tend to get obliterated on circulated coins. But sometimes not. So finding potential doubling and then matching the markers for the die state allow for IDing the coin for attribution. NOTE: folks tend to be bothered by the 1964/1964D Jefferson nickels. So darned many of them. But there are a bunch of doubled dies for the date/mm, so great opportunity to find one. Also, because there are so many, finding them in AU/BU condition in circulation is a good possibility. I've found dozens of doubled dies that way for this date and others on coins many collectors consider bothersome. So keep at it...you'll find them too.
