I have seen all the differences between large date vs small date. Unfortunately, I don’t have the eye and confidence in still spotting the difference. I will weigh the coins after so I can put them in my book accordingly. Please let me know which is small date and large date.

All large dates. Does this help.

While most tune in on the digit 2, I always look first at the 8. The small date looks more like a snowman with a small top.

Already stated; all large dates. Look at the 8 and the 2 closely.

This is just my opinion, but if you have this much trouble telling the difference between the small and large date, then you should stop looking for them. ~ Chris

Welcome to Coin Talk. The large date is set closer to the edge of the coin than the small date is. I think it is easier to tell once you have one of each.

This is just my opinion, But if you have trouble posting anything that has any numismatic value what-so-ever, maybe you should just stop posting.

How does this help? Everything we all know we learned...and there was a time when we didn’t know it.

I have no problem posting comments with numismatic value as long as the thread has some numismatic value. Considering all of the threads that have been posted about the large & small dates, if the OP can't figure it out, then maybe he should give up and move on to another category. ~ Chris

If all you did was pull the wrong teeth, how long would you last as a dentist? ~ Chris

But that flies in the face of what this forum is for...which is education. Sure they probably could have searched for the info and found it. But they asked. So what. If you don’t like that...then why waste your time replying.

What does that have to do with anything. If I couldn’t fly I wouldn’t last very long as a bird either...wait, what?

There was a time when I couldn’t pull teeth...and you know what. Someone taught me how. They didn’t look at me like I was an idiot because I didn’t know how and they did. I’ve already pulled two today.

Come on, Cam. You're smarter than that! There is a big difference in being able to pull teeth and knowing which one is the correct one to pull. ~ Chris

That’s true. But how does that relate to understanding how to identify a large date from a small one. Teeth look different too. But there was one time when I didn’t know how to tell a first molar from a second. Someone taught me that. I didn’t always know that.

My analogy relates because the OP said he couldn't tell the difference and wanted someone here to do it for him.

Consider this: If every time you drove your car, you had an accident that was your fault maybe it would be a good idea for you to stop driving altogether. ~ Chris

So what. He asked for our help because he doesn’t have the confidence in his skills. So either offer help or post somewhere else. I don’t understand why this is so hard for you. If you don’t want to help then don’t help...but why do you have to make such a big deal over why you don’t want to help.

I get it. You think it’s beneath you to help in this situation. So why waste your time with it.

    CAUTION, ANALOGY AHEAD!

You go ahead and keep pulling the wrong teeth and allow the bad ones to stay where they are.
