Need help with the gradation of an 1834 half-crown and its valuation How much will the highlighted mark impact the coin? Thanks s much for you valued opinion. Regards, Ek.
Coins of Great Britain are graded differently than US Coins. Check this site for possible help: https://www.warwickandwarwick.com/news/guides/coin-grading-guide If you want them professionally graded, NGC does a good job. They are in The USA. I'm not a collector of foreign coins but I think there must be some reputable grading services in the United Kingdom.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion @Thomas But I was just looking for some opinion from the members here on what they think about the coin
Hi @thomas mozzillo, Again thanks so much for the input. Unfortunately, I have the link to that site as well. Let me put it in a different way. I am not sure where you from. Say you are in USA, then how will you grade the coin? If you are in UK then how will you grade it? If you are in some other country then how will you grade against any of one of the standards? I just need your thought and of course the same from any other experts who can spare a little time. Thanks once again. Kind Regards, Ek.
I live in the USA (Brooklyn, NY to be precise) . Using the grading standards in the US, IMO, judging by the photos, the 1834 would grade AU/MS and the 1698 would grade F-VF.. My guestimate for the 1698 would be about $175.USD and the 1834 would bring a nice price. compare the 1834 to this one on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GR-BRITAIN...176574?hash=item2a9e39387e:g:PH4AAOSwPkBabzcj Your coin looks a lot nicer. I don't think the mark on the 1834 is distracting from the eye appeal of your coin. I'd like to stress the point that I am not an expert on your coins so please wait for other opinions.
In my opinion, @Ekalabya Ghosh, your coin appears to be at least an AU 58 possibly higher after comparing it to some examples found online. In terms of value, I'm not exactly sure of its value, but I'd highly recommend sending it in for grading by a reputable TPG such as NGC, PCGS, or ANACS. However, since you are British have you considered contacting Spink & Son auctions they might be a good place for you to consider if you plan on selling it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1834-Great...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 https://www.ebay.com/itm/ENGLAND-WI...664017?hash=item5484774d91:g:zQEAAOSwkEFd4VXr
I'm leaning towards UNC Details. The market has softened for these coins so I would try to get it around the $200-250 mark. What is the seller asking?
It's EF with a mark in the obverse field. Unsold at auction this month so not worth the estimate, at least, not on that day. The mark puts me off somewhat - I'd like to inspect that in hand before considering a purchase.
It doesn’t look right to me I would definitely question it’s authenticity Just my opinion but i do deal in uk coins
The coin looks authentic to me. According to U.S. standards it would be AU in my opinion. The mark behind George's head is far too round to be accidental. Looks like a small countermark. Could possibly increase the coin's value. I would have it graded.
I question the authenticity of every coin I look at - job #1 surely? I'd be interested to know what you think doesn't look right? The auction company have a good reputation (they withdrew this from their last auction because it was found to be an electrotype - it was the cover coin on the auction catalogue and star attraction).
