Don’t know if anyone else is engrossed in this History Channel program. Living in the heart of the confederacy, I had been anxiously awaiting this series.

The two cent coin below was dug on the bank of the Congaree River in Columbia South Carolina very near where it is known that General Sherman held camp on his march through the south.

Please post a civil war era coin or artifact.

Well, this one just misses the mark by a year, arriving in today's mail. I bought this one very cheap on ebay. Looks better in hand than the seller's photos.

Full disclosure. I didn’t dig that one. A friend of mine that is a military button collector dug that. He had no interest in the coin so I traded him two fine cigars for the piece. That was thirty years ago in my cigar smoking days..... And I think I over paid!

Here's a coin I bought for $15 at my LCS today for my type set. F details holed & plugged, It was minted in New Orleans a year before the civil war began; so it is more than likely that it circulated in the confederacy.

Also I prefer Mark Felton over History channel.

I hear that. The History Channel hasn’t been much on history for years now. But they did a good job so far with the Grant piece.

    Gonna watch it, for sure.

I need to watch Ken Burns "The Civil War" again but in Blu-Ray.

For Civil War stuff, when I was at the Univ. of Georgia, we used to go to Atlanta to Underground Atlanta. Part of the city that is literally underground, the ground level floors of pre-Civil War businesses downtown that were filled in during Atlanta's first urban renewal conducted by Sherman. They at first never cleaned it out just built up from that and when they started cleaning out basements in buildings, they found store fronts and city streets down there...fascinating place. Also Cyclorama... https://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/explore/exhibitions/cyclorama-the-big-picture

Hard era to locate for me but here's a couple! The wide awakes Token is mine but the badge is not! I was bidding on it, and I actually thought it was mine but someone sniped it away from me in the last milliseconds! Can't win them all! ;) Not sure if the Whitney Glass Works Token is still in my collection or not, if not it used to be! :D Not exactly CWT's but real close! :cigar:

I first visited Underground Atlanta in 1972. I remember that you could see some of the charred remnants from Sherman's march through the city when it was burned to the ground. ~ Chris

Around the time I got married, my wife's parents moved to Georgia, about an hour southwest of Atlanta. They lived there for over 25 years, and we visited many times -- but I only ever got to Underground once, and I don't remember the Cyclorama at all. :(

I see one of the topics on the linked page is "War in Our Backyards". That, I can relate to. The house where I spent my first ten years had a backyard that led to a cornfield. The cultivator turned up a Civil-War era shell one year; my brother kept it on his dresser. It probably didn't come from the actual Battle of Antietam -- that battlefield was 5 or 10 miles away. But there was definitely activity in the area, just about 100 years before our subdivision was built.
