Any word of coin shows coming back? With many seniors attending shows, I have a bad feeling it won’t be for awhile.
Whenever people want to try and put one on. They could be put on right now if people really wanted to, but of course no one would really go
Coin shows would be especially fertile ground for the spread of this virus, so I remain a willing bystander for the time being.
My local Club’s next scheduled show isn’t until October so we’re just sitting and waiting. Our worst case scenario is to hold a show too early, have dealers buy tables and set up, then not have the public show up. Everybody loses in that scenario.
Looking at this from a outside the box view....now look we all enjoy shows. Myself included, in fact have worked shows over the last few years. However....I know how we set up for our shows. In a Hotel coverence room tables in a rectangle around the room against the wall and center of room. Is there 6 foot between the tables no, the tables are 6 foot. Side by side w8th no seperation between tables. So first spacing 6 foot , is issue 1 , Next is protecting both dealer and buyer , some sort of sneeze guard plexi glass, but the biggest issue is this "TOUCH" you won't be able to handel coins without gloves. Sanitizer for hands then gloved...to protect both buyer and seller . Who wants to handel a coin no matter raw ,slabed, 2x2 what ever....so as well as I'd being checked at the door, you'll need to sanitize your hands and glove. Unless this is done I cannot see how a show could operate under current restrictions . On the exit the gloves need be disposed of, remover one at a time inside out ,then hands washed or sanitizer. And number of customers allowed in room would be limited to room size and space between dealers.
Sure do miss coin shows but won't be attending another one for at least a year. Until the rate of infection is in Rapid decline the extent of my mingling in public will be limited to only things that are absolutely necessary.
I miss the shows as well! I understand why they aren't coming back anytime soon. I know our club just canceled Our show. They will be back! Can't wait!!!
I'm looking forward to the November Whitman Show in Baltimore. My only worry is that the various governments are loosening up too soon and we'll have a relapse.
It very well could rebound and with a vengeance. We don't know since everyone is just now starting to look into it. I hope I would be able to say I'll see you at the November show for my birthday, I'm just not too sure.
My guess is we will see limited shows this year. Although each state is treating the reopening differently, traveling is still a challenge and a lot of coin collectors are older and thus higher risk. Even if a show was in an fully opened state...I would imagine they would see a significant reduction in attendance. I can't imagine putting on a show is cheap so with a significantly reduced attendance, it likely wouldn't be cost effective. Coin shows are businesses...they won't return until it makes business sense. I think that might be a while.
If you have germs on your hands and then put on gloves, you have transferred the germs to the surface of the gloves. Kind of defeats the purpose.
We in the medical field do sanitize first and then glove...this is correct. However, we are constantly changing our gloves. I go through a couple boxes a week. I see these people wearing gloves all over the place touching everything. They are just experiencing a false sense of security. Unless you change your gloves to a clean set for every new thing you do...it's useless.
Just like wearing the same mask over and over probably does more harm than good and you have to take gloves off by turning them inside out to not touch the outside etc etc
