:hatch: :bow: Hello :bow: Yesterday i bought a 20 zlotych gold coin from 1925 (370 USD), but i`m unsure: did this coin ever circulate, or was it at least intended for circulation?
According to my catalog (Schön), the two Boleslaw Chrobry coins (10 zl, 20 zl) were not issued for circulation but could be purchased by paying gold plus a minting surcharge. Christian
From my notes: Commemorative celebrating the 900th anniversary of the Coronation of King Boleslaw Chrobry; Poland's first King. Dated 1925 but struck in 1926 at the Warsaw mint. Though this coin is not considered a pattern it is debated whether it should be considered a “circulation” strike. These coins did not, in fact, circulate in interwar Poland, unless some reached circulation by error. The Polish government did not release these coins into circulation. They could be acquired from the government before 1939 in exchange for an equivalent amount of gold bullion. When World War II broke out, the government sent their gold holdings to the West for safekeeping. Large numbers were released in the 1990s, after Poland regained its sovereignty. These coins are readily available and most all specimens are in nice uncirculated condition.
Interesting. A coin no one really knows how to classify Even thou i would prefer it to have been circulating, it´s rather peculiar history makes it worth the money spent.
I like that it is the same specs as 20 Francs gold coins. The 20 Lire coins also use 21mm and .1867oz measurements.
