My first turtle. Please, no circumcision jokes. It wouldn't be fair to him. He's all alone. I said he was my first. Maybe you could post your turtle's and they could play? Islands off Attica. Aegina circa 550-456 BC. Obol AR 8mm., 0,94g. nearly very fine Ex: Savoca
Wonderful coin! Just LOVE the image of heracles lifting the cretan bull. I've never seen the type before. But just added it to my musty have list More of a spring chicken than a turtle. In comparison, that is.

I have three playmates. First is an obol most distinctive for the pattern of reticulation. Second is my favorite stater distinctive for the claw detail. I feel the standard head up orientation is wrong. I prefer these with dead detail shown swimming left. This is from the period where baroque nuggets were used for flans. Finally is the later version stater with less head detail that shows a serious chunk missing from the die resulting in a raised cud. The cud here could be mistaken for an orca if I rotated the image to the way I prefer today. Reshoot time!
Amazing and diverse collection of these popular and hard to come by beauties The wild and crystallized (?) reverse of the first one looks like an ancient left their finger print. And what did the "skew" incuse design on the reverse mean to them? Just a pretty shape? I doubt that Agreed, that 2nd sweety absolutely appears to be swimming along. It has much more detail then most of those other archaic examples or any for that matter. One more case where I like the archaic better than the classical. And "reshoot me" is what half of my collection screams at me. But I'm too busy making sure all 3 of my boys butt's don't have a dirty diapers on them... though I am relying less and less of the seller's photos. Though, I wouldn't complain seeing more pics of that third. It appears to be a doozy
Very nice one! Here’s little brother... ATTICA, Aegina AR Hemiobol. 0.52g, 7mm. ATTICA, Aegina, circa 480-457 BC. SNG Cop 512-3; HGC 6, 453; SNG Delepierre 1521. O: Cutest little sea turtle ever. R: Large square incuse with skew pattern. Ex E.E. Clain-Stefanelli Collection Mommy is never far away...
Well, this is just adorable! That really shows how massive the biguns are (and why there is a massive difference in priced). And, as my wife pointed out to me, I won most first turtle coin and made this thread... on World Turtle Day
Looked in the boxes for my turtle, and found him under a rock! Aegina Stater circa 485-480 BC 12.0 grams
