I’m not a regular seller on Ebay but what are the alternative venues for DIY sales?

This a joke? Ebay is one of the easiest ways to find coins aside from LCS in your community. I just don't see this flying.

How will I get World Coins? More than 90% of my foreign collection have been purchased through ebay.

And the ebay is gonna lose all those sellers and the fees they bring in? I'd have doubts about that.

But....if they did someone is gonna have a windfall crating a new place for coin and currency sellers.

I'll be fine if they eliminate Vehicles and Bullion. There are plenty of bullion websites.

But I have been to coin shops before that don't sell foreign coins, not even Forex like a small bag of Euros or Yen or Canadian.

My source for finding modern things like that will be cut significantly if Ebay altogether just bans sales on all coins.

My enjoyment of the hobby will definitely dwindle if this happens. I enjoy the hunt, as well as most of my coins, come from ebay.

What exactly is meant by “managed payments?”

I can bet that 90% of their complaints and returns are also in coins and autos. Hiring someone to arbitrate isn't cheap either and a law team to constantly monitor the laws governing thse very items has got to be extremely expensive. With the additional tax liability now added, what a headache.

I will also be willing to bet that social media is the second largest avenue for these purchases. You have a better chance of getting to know who you are buying from there.

Based on what I've read thus far, payments by other than the managed payment system can be accepted and, in fact, will probably be part of the required information in the listings. My guess is that transactions paid for with credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, etc will be acceptable, but may not be backed by eBay buyer or seller protections.

This appears to be eBay's attempt to cling to the juicy associated fees, while dispensing with the headaches that often attend sales in those categories.

Like the government, if you can't enforce rules you change the rules. In the early days of eBay there was very little if any fraud. The intend of eBay was to give people a way to buy and sell hobby or home interest things. It never was intended to be an on-line big box store. Prosecute people who break the rules and let the honest people have their outlet.

It seems Ebay is partnering with ADYEN "A single payments platform to accept payments anywhere, on any device" and that Adyen has rules that typically don't permit purchases of coins and bullion through their platform (and likely other items as well). But it is said that Etsy has an agreement with Adyen as well. Etsy still sell coins so there is probably room for agreements that would permit continued sales on Ebay. It will hopefully will be worked out with Ebay before Adyen lands on the site in 2021. It likely comes down to who will be responsible for the "Ebay Money back Guarantee" for these particular items. I would hope Ebay officially addresses these rumors soon.

You are exactly right. I know it's not coins but there are blatant "Diamond" jewelry sales on Ebay from Non-US Countries. I am sure that there are problems all the time with those yet Ebay permits items to be posted as "Diamond" when in fact they are cheap imitations.

Some have mentioned Etsy (that is said to have an agreement with Adyen payment processing the same that Ebay is to be partnering with that has these rules but maybe Etsy negotiated to eliminate them in their agreement and Ebay will probably do the same) and there is a forum here too that you may already be familiar with that permits sales.

I’m not sure about this. The Ebay policy update says all sellers are required to enroll in managed payments. Sellers enrolled in managed payments are not permitted to list coins.
